Chapter 143: The Divine Stag's Suggestion
Page 1 of 3
Su Yizhao did not need to guess. The newcomer was certainly from the Jin clan.
Sure enough, the gold-robed cultivator spoke. “Young Friend Su, our patriarch would like to invite you to the Jin clan for a visit. Would you care to come with me?”
Su Yizhao knew this was no time to hesitate. He immediately shook his head. “Thanks, but I’m busy for now.”
Countless cultivators had gathered around them, yet the entire area was utterly silent.
What nerve!
If memory served, this was the second time the Jin patriarch had extended an invitation.
Across this vast continent, there were certainly cultivators bold enough to refuse the Jin patriarch—but no one had ever dared refuse him twice in a single day.
And if anyone had, they had probably already become a corpse.
Some people and some matters could neither be accepted nor refused casually.
The gold-robed cultivator shook his head and sighed.
Su Yizhao stepped in front of Qin Hongyi, circulated his cultivation technique, and secretly prepared himself.
This man had killed without even asking who his opponent was. Clearly, he was ruthless and merciless.
That alone revealed something of the Jin clan’s style.
Yet instinct told Su Yizhao that if this man made a move, he would undoubtedly die.
Unexpectedly, the gold-robed cultivator did not attack. He merely sighed. “I really can’t understand why the patriarch thinks so highly of you. Even if you defeated that boy Jin Bupai, there was no need for all this.”
Su Yizhao remained silent.
“Forget it. You may leave.” The gold-robed cultivator showed no intention of forcing him.
Su Yizhao said nothing more. He took Qin Hongyi by the hand and prepared to depart.
“You will come eventually.”
With those words, the gold-robed cultivator vanished from the spot.
Su Yizhao did not understand.
But there was no time to investigate the matter now. He took Qin Hongyi and flew into the sky.
When they returned to the inner sect of the Profound Heaven Sect, Xuan Wuji was actually waiting at the gate.
The moment he saw Su Yizhao return, he came forward to greet him.
Su Yizhao cupped his hands. “Elder Xuan, may I ask what this is about?”
“Do you have some connection with the Jin clan?”
Su Yizhao showed no surprise whatsoever.
On this continent, if the Profound Heaven Sect wished to know something, there was probably nothing it could not discover.
Still, how would the sect respond to the turmoil sweeping across the continent?
He did not ask.
When the sect felt it was time to tell him, it certainly would.
“Not before. If there is any connection now, it would be that I gave Jin Bupai a thorough beating.”
Xuan Wuji was very pleased, wearing an expression that said he had expected as much.
The young man before him had come from the remote southwestern border, and his background was perfectly clear.
He nodded. “The Jin clan’s waters run rather deep. If you can avoid getting involved with them, do so. But since you have already beaten Jin Bupai, you are involved now. I’m afraid there is nothing I can do to help you.”
“What kind of trouble will there be?”
“Jin Bupai ranked second in the session before last. The champion was his elder brother, Jin Buhuan.”
Su Yizhao was speechless.
Why did everyone have a brother?

Xuan Wuji said helplessly, “Among the eight great clans of Vast City, the Jin clan ranks first and the Mo clan ranks second. Somehow, you have managed to offend both.”
Su Yizhao fell silent.
Xuan Wuji tried to console him. “There is no need to blame yourself. This is perfectly normal.”
“Why?”
“Under the Heavenly Dao, neither people nor matters can ever be perfect. Thus, amid the workings of heavenly fortune, countless geniuses and monsters are bound to encounter one another. They will inevitably fight until a single unrivaled genius remains.”
Su Yizhao was stunned.
What nonsense!
He could not find any evidence, but instinct told him that Xuan Wuji was simply making it up.
What Heavenly Dao? What heavenly fortune?
Even if such things existed, what did they have to do with cultivators?
“Haha! I was only teasing you. Go on—cultivate properly!” Seeing that Su Yizhao did not believe him, Xuan Wuji looked slightly embarrassed. He gave a loud laugh and waved him away.
Su Yizhao and Qin Hongyi returned to the wooden hut.
“After going out once, I not only failed to earn any mystic stones, but somehow got dragged into another whirlpool. What a terrible bargain.”
Su Yizhao sat cross-legged and looked at his empty storage ring, then could not help raising his head and sighing toward the heavens.
Qin Hongyi, on the other hand, consoled him. “At least we learned a great many things and can prepare in advance.”
Su Yizhao nodded.
But prepare for what?
Even cultivation required mystic stones.
He was just about to speak when Qin Hongyi smiled. “Why not challenge someone?”
“No.”
You have to be kidding.
Keeping a low profile was the proper way. If he went around challenging people, it would be obvious he was after their mystic stones. Would the losers willingly accept that?
Besides, every one of these people had brothers.
The moment they could not win, they would call for reinforcements. How boring!
Seeing that he truly had no intention of going, Qin Hongyi could think of nothing else. She frowned, apparently searching for another solution.
At that moment, the Divine Deer suddenly spoke in his mind. “Boy, I have an idea!”
Su Yizhao was overjoyed.
At last, this idiotic deer was proving useful!
He had already determined that the deer definitely could not read his thoughts. Otherwise, after being cursed at so many times, its temper would never have let him off so easily. At the very least, it would have cursed him back.
“Hurry up and enlighten me,” he urged.
The Divine Deer was enraged. “Enlighten you? Boy, do you know how to speak properly? You should say ‘please instruct me’ or ‘please advise me!’”
Su Yizhao merely smiled.
He was certain that this deer only knew how to lecture.
Sure enough, after roaring for several moments, the Divine Deer finally calmed down. “If not for your father telling me that I may only reason with you and must not hit you, hmph!”
Su Yizhao smiled. “What is your idea? You should know better than anyone how many mystic stones I’m short.”
“Go rob someone!”
The moment Su Yizhao heard that, he no longer felt like speaking to it.
Rob someone? It was not entirely impossible.
But the amount of mystic stones he needed was not ten thousand, or even a million or ten million. Every time, he needed them in the hundreds of millions.
How many people would he have to rob?
That was why he had no interest in Qin Hongyi’s suggestion of challenging others.
Keeping a low profile was one reason, but more importantly, the mystic stones gained from such challenges were far too few. To him, they were completely meaningless.

“Go out and wander around. There are mystic-stone mines all over the continent. Just dig them up.”
The Divine Deer spoke again.
But this idea was even more absurd.
Utterly absurd!
Dig?
When would he ever finish?
Moreover, what he needed were top-grade mystic stones. Where was he supposed to find those?
“I know many places where high-level Spirit Devourers were buried long ago. Heh heh!”
Su Yizhao was delighted. “Really?”
The Divine Deer chuckled. “Heh heh! What do you think? My tracks cover the entire starry sky. Do you not believe me?”
“You aren’t lying to me, are you?”
The Divine Deer was speechless.
The Divine Deer, which had once roamed the starry sky, had actually fallen to such a state.
Did it even need to lie?
The Divine Deer said gloomily, “Why would I need to lie to you? What benefit would I gain?”
“You have to lie.”
The Divine Deer fell silent.
Su Yizhao said, “I’ll take your word for it this once. Why did you not mention it while we were outside?”
“That is my concern.”
“What excuse should I use to go out again?”
“That is your concern.”
Su Yizhao was speechless.
“Fellow Daoist Qin!” Su Yizhao called to Qin Hongyi. “What excuse can I use to go out again?”
Qin Hongyi was astonished.
They had only just returned, and he already wanted to leave again?
She did not really mind. She believed they could go in and out hundreds of times a day without anyone interfering.
But Su Yizhao was a specially nurtured talent.
When he went out, an elder stood guard at the gate.
When he returned, the elder was waiting there again.
What excuse could he possibly give?
She thought hard for four or five breaths before saying, “Why not say that a relative of yours has fallen ill?”
Su Yizhao was speechless.
