Chapter 101: Mr. Potato Seized the Future!

Colin found it hard to describe the sensation of grasping it; it felt as if he had seized a wisp of cold, intangible air—light and insubstantial. If it weren’t for the fact that it was indeed being dragged, Colin would have doubted whether he had truly caught hold of this semi-corporeal entity.
But clearly, it was being pulled along now.
He swiftly broke away from the group and headed toward the fissure that sealed the “Rat in the Wall,” then...
“Let me in, will you?”
As the wisp of “air” was shoved inside, it seemed to sense something and stirred restlessly.
At that moment, hundreds, perhaps thousands, of faintly glowing stones spilled from Colin’s backpack. When stacked beneath the stone pillar, the damaged sacred mark etched upon it instantly began to mend.
Simultaneously, as the sacred mark swiftly repaired itself, the voices of the “Rats in the Wall” within the city grew progressively faint.
“Sealed?” Colin stared intently at the translucent light barrier.
The humanoid shadow that embodied the curse pounded frantically against the light screen—shifting between grains of sand and shadowy clusters, its form constantly changing.
Yet this time, it failed to break through.
Just then, Colin noticed that from the “gap” behind the light screen, a multitude of “rats” that could only be perceived by sound and shadow surged forth, engulfing the humanoid shadow...
Soon enough, the curse was devoured entirely by those “rats,” leaving nothing behind.
“Eaten?” Colin was momentarily stunned.
This was an unexpected blessing.
But right where the shadow had vanished, the darkness began to writhe...
Another humanoid silhouette appeared soon after!
The moment it emerged, it furiously struck the light screen, but to no avail...
As a swarm of rats surged upward...
It “died” again.
Colin watched as countless rat shadows lingered there, chattering noisily. Many licked their paws with small tongues, as if waiting patiently for a treat.
Clearly, this thing would never escape in its lifetime—it was destined to become food for these ravenous rats...
Pitiful...
For this curse, Colin could only sum up his feelings in that one word.
“You actually thought of this method...” Shana, the only one who had kept up with him, looked on in amazement.
“It came to me in a flash. I figured that the ‘rat’ must be of a higher level than it. Since the seal could trap the rats, it should have a chance to seal it as well,” Colin shook his head, unwilling to dwell on the topic further. “Li Chou still needs to keep watch, at least to ensure that no abnormalities arise in the coming hours, or even days...”
This curse had a peculiar trait: whenever it split, the original individual would be covered up.

Like a Russian nesting doll.
What you see is always the outermost layer.
That was why, after noticing the numbers didn’t add up, Colin could decisively take action against “Li Chou” without fearing a mistake in identity.
“Mm,” Shana nodded, fully submitting to Colin’s command.
“Great!” Li Chou, looking as if he had just awakened, along with Number One and others, arrived at this moment.
The happiest person was none other than Li Chou himself. Every time the curse split, he felt as if he were dreaming, confused and dazed.
The shadow spawned by the curse would completely replace him...
And he himself felt as though he was experiencing a third-person dream, struggling to recall what had truly happened after waking...
“Mission accomplished...”
Colin produced a parchment scroll and saw that the tasks displayed were marked as completed.
“Congratulations, you have received ‘Raw Potato’ ×30.”
“Congratulations, you have received ‘Recovery Card’ ×1.”
“Congratulations, you have received ‘Contaminated Eyeball’ ×1.”
...
“Let’s leave here first; be cautious of any accidents.”
After receiving the rewards, Colin did not inspect them immediately but instead had several survivors trembling like quails dragged out quickly.
Influenced by him, the other servants were all on high alert, as if anticipating some great danger imminent.
However...
There was none.
“Hm, it really was that simple and easy to complete?” Colin was half in disbelief. Though he trusted it, he wasn’t entirely convinced.
It was the first time a mission had been so effortless, and he felt a bit unaccustomed.
Moreover, this time, not only was the mission completed, but another major problem was also resolved.
“Simple, huh...” A survivor who had recovered somewhat from the mental shock showed a bitter expression upon hearing this.
“Praise the sun... probably, given the strength you wield, it does seem so.”
“Don’t mind it. You were just... a little unlucky.”
Colin offered some consolation.
But just then, he suddenly noticed a recently collapsed pit behind the survivor...
[You realize this is a collapsed passage leading outside. If cleared, it could provide a stable route out of here...]
Page 3/3
[Combined with that ‘gap’ in reality, you suspect something might once have escaped through here. The underground tunnel is likely the product of its digging...]
“Is this the passage you came through?” Colin asked to confirm.
Seeing their nods, a strange expression crossed his face.
“So this pit leads here…”
Damn, this tunnel led straight into the backyard of these ‘nobles.’ These survivors really had tough luck...
“But then again, what exactly is the thing the hint refers to, one that could dig such a long tunnel to escape?”
This tunnel was long enough to run a subway through—probably another unknown ‘miracle.’
Since no new mission was issued, Colin didn’t dwell on it further. After warning everyone to stay vigilant, he began inventorying the mission’s spoils.
He pulled out an unremarkable yellow lump from his backpack.
In this moment, Colin grasped humanity’s future!
Under the curious gazes of Shana and the others, he held the potato aloft, his face breaking into an innocent smile reminiscent of a young child.
Shana, curious and appropriately teasing, said, “Is this the potato you, Lord Colin, have placed such hopes in?”
She rarely saw Colin display such a clear smile.
“Yes.”
Colin nodded with a smile, feeling strength surge through him.
If nothing unexpected happened, within a few days most of humanity would be able to eat potatoes they grew themselves.
Most importantly, they would begin to free themselves from dependence on the system.
“I’m craving fries now. It’d be even better with a chilled soda...” Li Chou couldn’t help but remark.
At this moment, all of them couldn’t help but reminisce about the past.
“Not yet. We need to take them back and have them cultivated to sprout tubers first.”
Colin contacted their territory and relayed this message, which instantly sparked exclamations throughout the domain.
Afterward, he hesitated to part with all thirty potatoes of similar size.
“Tomorrow, I’ll be doing good deeds again. I really am a benefactor.”
Colin muttered inwardly, taking a deep breath to calm the excitement pounding in his chest.
“Recovery cards... four now. As long as I’m not one-shot or trapped in an unsolvable predicament, it’s like having four extra lives...”
His gaze shifted toward the grotesque, distinctly human eyeball, pondering its purpose.
