Chapter 154: The Former Delinquent Girl
Before Liu Qingshan could even speak, the others had already dropped the instruments in their hands and rushed toward the control room like a gust of wind.
By the time he strolled over, the newly recorded track was already playing.
Shi Hui had arrived at some point, accompanied by Sammo Hung and Simon Yam.
A soft explanation reached his ear from Shi Hui: "Big Brother Sammo called me right after I spoke with Boss Ye. Jackie and the others spent the whole day filming beach scenes, and Brother Guang actually came along with Big Brother Sammo!"
Liu Qingshan then greeted the two of them, but the song clearly held a much greater attraction than he did, and the pair merely offered slight, perfunctory nods.
He knew the purpose of Ken Lo’s visit; the man was fiercely loyal and chivalrous. Upon learning that Liu Qingshan had arrived in Hong Kong without greeting him first, he had undoubtedly come to call him to account.
Sure enough, after listening to the entire piece, Ken Lo’s booming, carefree voice began to complain: "Well, if it isn't Shanzi! You came right onto my turf and actually dared not to give a single heads-up!"
A sudden warmth welled up in Liu Qingshan’s chest. Just being called Shanzi brought a sense of comfort, whereas ever since his arrival, his ears had been filled with nothing but the Cantonese diminutive "Shan-jai."
"Brother Guang, I'm really sorry. As soon as I got off the plane yesterday, I rushed straight to the set, and then early this morning I was summoned over by Boss Ye. I simply haven't had a moment to spare!"
Ken Lo’s face was like the March sky, turning into a expanse of smiles in an instant: "I knew you were busy, brother, so didn't I just come looking for you myself?"
Sammo Hung chimed in from the side: "A-guang called very early this morning asking about you. When he asked Sister Shi Hui, she happened to have just finished talking with Boss Ye, so she simply tagged along with him!"
Shi Hui added, "Boss Ye actually knew my number too. He called to inform me to join you for some welcome banquet."
He hadn't expected such a prominent boss to be so meticulous. Not only had he proactively thought of hosting a banquet for him, but he hadn't even forgotten to personally notify Shi Hui, the young assistant.
Liu Qingshan knew that Ye Wan-cheng must have thoroughly investigated the situation of the *SPL* crew before scheduling the welcome banquet for noon.
Sammo Hung immediately verified his guess: "Truth be told, Boss Ye is genuinely good to you. He's going out of his way to host a welcome banquet for you—that's a massive show of support!"
"Boss Ye is showing such benevolence simply because he knows I'm a newcomer and fears I might inadvertently offend someone."
Liu Qingshan replied with hidden barbs that only the two of them could understand.
Sammo Hung smiled knowingly, finally finding the opportunity to greet certain people present at the scene.
Unsurprisingly, he was indeed very familiar with Aidi, and the two whispered to each other for quite a long time.
The others were quite startled by the arrival of these two men. Although Hong Kong wasn't very large and occasionally running into a celebrity was normal, these two were top-tier figures in the Hong Kong stunt community. The fact that they took the initiative to seek him out without prior notice spoke volumes about Liu Qingshan’s status in their eyes.
Everyone already knew that Liu Qingshan’s martial arts skills were frighteningly high, but now, with the two veterans implicitly confirming it, their gazes toward him were tinged with a newfound sense of awe.
The members of the Chessboard Band, in particular, felt a surge of fervent excitement in their hearts. Without a doubt, Liu Qingshan’s background and origins were far from ordinary; following him in the future would likely turn out exceptionally well.
Manager Bian hurried away once he secured the recording, but Chen Qianhui stayed behind, consistently keeping her attention on Liu Qingshan’s side.
Ken Lo immediately noticed this. He leaned in and whispered into Liu Qingshan’s ear, "Shanzi, when did you catch the eye of Boss Ye's Second Lass? That girl's arrogance is quite notorious, you know!"
He frequently interacted with mainlanders and had picked up quite a few of their conversational habits.
A thought stirred in Liu Qingshan, and he hurriedly asked, "You know her background?"
Ken Lo gave him a strange look. "You really didn't know? Could it be that Second Lass was dispatched by Boss Ye himself?"
"Why do you call her Second Lass?" Liu Qingshan asked, dodging the question.
"What's her full name again? Damn, I actually don't remember! Oh, right, right, right—Chen Qianhui. She's actually Boss Ye's own niece; the surname Chen is just a stage name. This girl also has an older twin sister, so one is called Big Lass and the other Second Lass!"
"Then why does Brother Guang's tone sound a bit strange?"
"Once you find out what those two sisters are like, you'll cower just like I did a moment ago! Those two lasses were fiercely notorious a few years ago. In Hong Kong, we call that type of girl a *tai-tai* or young hoodlum, but they were far more formidable than ordinary delinquents. Word has it they always carried handguns tucked into their waistbands—they're the kind of crazy broads who would pull the trigger over nothing!"
"Are they really that savage? Why become a singer now?"
"Second Lass entered showbiz, whereas Big Lass is now a prominent business elite, the kind who dines and drinks with the Chief Executive!"
"Well, look at you! Where did Brother Guang pick up that Beijing accent?"
"Stop mocking your brother, I'm talking to you about serious matters here! Second Lass is hardly a real singer—she hasn't released any albums, nor does she appear on any programs. The rumor in the industry is that she only entered the circle to hook handsome guys!"
"With their family background, do they even need to disguise themselves as artists to chase men?"
"If her motives could be figured out by ordinary people, she wouldn't be Second Lass. Those two sisters were notorious for not playing by the rules. They had over a hundred female delinquents under their command and were the kind of female fiends who would lead a mob to attack people's doorsteps at the slightest displeasure—even mainstream triads didn't dare provoke them lightly."
"Sounds like quite the infamous reputation."
"Infamous, yes, but I've never heard of those wild chasing-after-guys scandals associated with them. Later, because the sisters kept getting hauled into counseling centers, their family packed them off to study abroad. And look at that—the moment they came back a couple of years ago, they completely reinvented themselves. Big Lass even transformed into a business prodigy! Oh damn, stop talking, Second Lass is walking over!"
Before Ken Lo’s voice had even faded, he flashed away and vanished entirely.
Liu Qingshan only needed to catch a whiff of a specific fragrance to know that Chen Qianhui had arrived by his side.
"Mr. Liu, that Ken Lo must have said plenty of bad things about my sister and me, didn't he?"
Liu Qingshan turned slightly to catch sight of Chen Qianhui’s delicate face.
"You mean Brother Guang? We were just chatting about old times. We got along well when working together on the set of *The Myth*, and today he came looking for me to have a drink!"
Chen Qianhui smiled noncommittally and calmly. "It's fine even if he did talk. Who hasn't had their wild and arrogant youth? Mr. Liu, do you know why I followed you here to accompany you while you record your song?"
"Stop calling me Mr. Liu all the time. You must be a year or two older than me—just call me Shanzi!"
"Alright, then you must address me as Second Sister from now on. I'm 24 years old this year, two years older than you—though previously I was three years older, seeing as today is your birthday and you're turning a full 22!"
For some reason, a chill ran down Liu Qingshan’s spine. He never expected that the other party would know so much about him.
"Eh? Today really is my birthday. I would have forgotten if you hadn't mentioned it."
He was speaking the truth, because in his concept, he had never proactively remembered his own birthday, a habit stemming from his lonely and impoverished upbringing.
