Chapter 106: The Car Accident

Just as Lin Zhongshi sat down, Butler Huo knocked and entered.
She spoke calmly, “Manager Lin, Chairman Lin requests you return. She will send someone else.”
“How dare she do this?” Lin Qing finally stood up, furious. “The terms I offered were absolutely for the benefit of the Chamber of Commerce!”
“This worthless settlement, we wouldn’t take it even if given for free up north, yet they dare to demand shares?”
He glared fiercely at everyone, venting his anger recklessly.
Fan Bei was furious upon hearing this. He had hoped for a low-profile development, but now he found himself unable to restrain his wrath.
He overestimated his own patience; not everyone was like Xie Bo, who could remain polite outwardly while scheming in secret.
On the contrary, there were many who were blunt and domineering, always pressuring others head-on.
“Get out! You’re not welcome here, and don’t come back with talk of cooperation or acquisition!”
He pointed directly toward the door.
“You’re asking for death!” Lin Qing’s face turned frighteningly cold as he stepped forward and tried to slap Fan Bei!
Immediately beside Fan Bei, a swirl of mist arose, trapping Lin Qing firmly.
“Let go of me, you know I…” Lin Qing hadn’t finished speaking when he began suffocating, the thick mist cutting off his air.
Everyone saw his face flush red, his eyes shifting from anger to terror and despair.
Suffocation is an excruciating torment, a punishment as harrowing as anyone who has seen it portrayed on screen could imagine.
Lin Zhongshi watched for a moment, then approached Fan Bei and sighed, “Although I dislike this fellow as well, please spare him this once. It was merely a verbal clash, not worth costing his life.”
Fan Bei’s expression darkened; he wrapped Lin Qing in mist and hurled him out the door.
This time, Lin Qing did not retort harshly. Outside, heavy footsteps echoed.
“All right, Butler Huo, see them out.”
Fan Bei said firmly to Butler Huo. If not for Lin Zhongshi’s intervention, he would have been tempted to kill Lin Qing then and there.
Such is the influence of power—living long does not temper one’s temper. Those without temper often lack power and cannot afford the consequences of confrontation.
As the system creator, possessing such immense strength, how could he endure such public humiliation?
Butler Huo was stunned, not expecting the situation to deteriorate so rapidly.
Only days ago, she had hoped to merge shares and unite as one, aiming to earn merit. Instead, a failed negotiation, coupled with the arrogance of the emissary, caused Mr. Fan to lose his temper instantly.
Suddenly it dawned on her: this refuge had been their home for decades, where countless companions had died. Lin Qing had called it garbage—how could the other side tolerate that?
This was a touchstone, a red line. She sighed inwardly and obediently escorted the remaining members out of the conference room.
Then she hurriedly used the radio to inform Lin Zhongqing of all that had transpired.
“More harm than good!” came Lin Zhongqing’s roar from the other end.
“I knew it; none of these opportunists are good!”

“From now on, anyone who does not swear loyalty to me personally will never set foot on my turf!”
Butler Huo remained silent, listening quietly.
“All right, you don’t need to worry about this now. I will send someone else to handle it later.” The tone finally softened.
“Yes, Master,” Butler Huo replied cautiously.
…
Outside the refuge, two SUVs sped along the road.
Lin Qing drove the lead vehicle, ignoring the rough terrain as he pressed the accelerator harder and harder.
“Damn it, Fan, just wait! I won’t let you off until I’ve ruined you!”
He shouted repeatedly, forging ahead.
Unlike Lin Zhongshi, who had long been active outside, Lin Qing had always worked within the family’s Chamber of Commerce. This was his first time sent out.
He had assumed his many advantages would make negotiations a breeze, but nearly got killed by a guy from some remote place!
Such humiliation was unbearable. In the past, he had always been the one bowing and swallowing insults.
Soon, the two vehicles passed by the poplar forest where Fan Bei often practiced mist armor.
The poplar forest lay west of the road, spanning several hundred meters, about ten kilometers north of the refuge’s main gate. Beyond it lay the bend in the Valley Exit Road where the Tenacity Chamber of Commerce was located.
Still cursing ahead, Lin Qing failed to notice a thick, gray-black tree root partially hidden beneath the roadbed.
The next moment, as the vehicle crossed a pothole, the root suddenly rose, blocking the tire.
With a loud crash, the speeding vehicle was thrown into the air, tumbling several times before crashing down off the roadbed.
“Manager Lin!” The trailing vehicle braked hard. Several people jumped out to help.
Lin Qing was alone in the crashed vehicle.
The entourage’s faces grew tense. Though the negotiation had fallen through and Lin Qing had driven recklessly, he was still the Chairman’s family. Now that there was an accident, they bore some responsibility.
Yet they felt a glimmer of relief, hoping he had activated his spiritual armor in time. Such a crash would likely cause only injuries at worst.
But when they reached the overturned vehicle and tried to rescue him, they were stunned.
Lin Qing had indeed activated the spiritual armor and was trapped in the seat. Yet his neck was snapped backward at a right angle, his eyes wide with disbelief and lingering terror.
“How is this possible?”
“Just a car accident, and he’s dead?”
The entourage was utterly shocked.
“We’re not far from the Tenacity Chamber of Commerce. Let’s get him there quickly—maybe he can still be saved,” someone cautiously suggested.
They immediately sprang into action.
…

In the nearby poplar forest, within the great poplar tree where Fan Bei once experimented with mist armor, a quarrel was unfolding.
“You… you actually killed someone? I thought you always claimed to be kind!” a fierce young woman stammered.
“Oh, that man kept saying he was good and that killing him would be wrong. If he’s good, then the killer must be bad. Of course, I had to kill the bad one,” the kind-spirited girl replied in surprise.
“I have nothing to say… didn’t expect you to be much crueler than me,” the fierce girl muttered. “Looks like you’re the true king of the forest.”
“No, I just want to live quietly here, not be the king of the forest,” the kind girl refused.
“Uh, even your idea of ‘quiet’ isn’t quiet. Humans will soon come to investigate, and then we’ll be in trouble,” the fierce girl lamented.
“It’s fine, since you control the body,” the kind girl comforted, “you must have a plan.”
“You say I control it, but why did you try to steal my root earlier?”
“Petty. I just wanted to use it for a bit.”
Two hours later, several cars arrived at the crash site.
A large white dog jumped out of a vehicle, sniffing around as if searching for the cause of the accident.
“See? They brought that dog,” the fierce girl worried.
“No worries. We’ve seen this dog many times. It’s stupid and won’t detect our presence,” the kind girl assured.
The white dog followed the crash trail into the poplar forest, trailed by many people.
Their faces were grim. Accidents were common on this road, but with the recent negotiation conflict followed by a crash, something felt off.
Seeing the dog enter the dense woods, everyone grew alert, watching intently.
“Found anything, White?”
“No problem. I just stopped to relieve myself,” White lifted his leg and turned back.
The group exchanged glances. Though they suspected the crash was suspicious, there was no clear cause—just a tree root growing in a pothole and excessive speed.
“Go back. Though I can’t clear all suspicion, I have a clear conscience. Besides, I wasn’t at the scene when it happened,” Fan Bei said coolly.
“I trust Fan’s character. Take the body back to my sister; she’ll understand,” Lin Zhongshi added.
Lin Qing’s entourage was resigned. They had witnessed Fan Bei’s power and lacked the courage to confront him. With Lin Zhongshi siding with Fan Bei, their only option was to report back.
Thus, the investigation ended without results.
The End
