Chapter 145: Hanging on to Life

Looking at the sword that had emerged from the void, Fan Bei nodded in satisfaction. He had no intention of concerning himself with Fatty Hou’s affairs. He had given the man an opportunity; if the man had failed to seize it, that was hardly his fault.
Of course, from the other man’s point of view, Fan Bei could understand him perfectly.
In this world, one truly could not trust others too readily. Suspicion was an advantage when it came to survival.
But Fan Bei had no time to worry about such things. They were neither relatives nor friends, merely parties to a fair transaction. He was not the other man’s father. All he knew was this:
The system unbinding process had been extremely simple, with no unexpected complications. Clearly, the legend that “once bound, a system can never be dropped” was merely a beautiful fantasy entertained by players on one side.
What was there in this world that could never be dropped?
If an account were stripped clean, would anyone still talk about things that could never be lost?
If the game version changed, would those so-called indestructible divine items not immediately be thrown into storage by wealthy players, who would then spend again to obtain the latest equipment? Of course they would.
Fan Bei took the sword, gave a few instructions, and then, following the deployment procedure, paid three million points of mental power to send it to the distant planet he had located.
Once everything was done, he wiped his hands as though he had just planted a seed. All that remained was to wait for it to sprout.
Now it was time to check on the other seed. After more than a month of gestation, it should have already taken root and begun to grow.
……
In the mine of the scammer world where Lang Sheng lived, people lay scattered across the ground.
“It’s impossible! Why hasn’t God punished you? Why hasn’t the blue light appeared? How can you use violence?” The mine owner and his henchmen leaned against the mine walls, barely clinging to consciousness as they questioned him.
Their eyes were filled with utter disbelief.
For thousands of years, violence had never been permitted against another person in this world. It was an ironclad law. Some people took it to even greater extremes: even when catching a fish, they had to politely ask it to take the bait…
Yet today, that understanding had been shattered before this man.
This fierce-looking brute had taught them a lesson with his fists.
Perhaps that rule had been broken before, but they had never known it. All they knew was that they had personally experienced the taste of those fists.
“According to the Law of the Gifted Fist, you forced me into a situation where I couldn’t go on living,” Lang Sheng said with difficulty. He too lay on the ground, barely alive, looking ten times worse than any of them. “That means I’m allowed to use my fists!”
That was right. He had deliberately allowed himself to be deceived, handing over the last of his meal money and leaving himself without food for three days. He had been driven to the brink of starvation. Without his powerful mental strength, he doubted he would even have been able to swing his fists.
In truth, he was not using biological energy to drive his punches. He was relying on the power of his mind.
The workers nearby trembled as they watched. This man was truly ruthless.

To punish the people who had cheated him, he had been willing to starve himself to the point of death in order to break through the restrictions imposed by the blue light.
“I seem to recall such a provision,” a bespectacled man in his thirties suddenly said. “If ordinary people are forced to the brink of starvation, they’re allowed to use their fists to reclaim what was cheated from them, so long as they don’t kill the other party outright.”
“You… you’re far too ruthless,” the mine owner muttered. “I calculated it carefully. Even after the deductions, your wages should still have been enough to keep you fed.”
“Cut the crap. Bring me my labor contract and void it at once. Otherwise, believe me, I’ll make you experience what it’s like to go five days without food!” Lang Sheng slowly crawled toward him, forcing one fist into the air as he spoke.
Five days without food?
The mine owner stared at his own enormous belly. Even two days without eating would leave him starving beyond endurance, let alone five.
It was said that a person could survive for seven days on water alone, but by then, they would supposedly be so ravenous that they would lose all semblance of humanity—even eating their own flesh.
Three days was already difficult for most people to endure, much less five.
“All right, I’ll give it to you. I’ll give it to you! It’s only a contract, isn’t it? I’ll cancel your entire debt!”
At once, the eyes of many workers lit up. Most of them had been deceived into losing everything they owned before being sold into the mines.
Yet when they compared themselves with Lang Sheng, they could only sigh helplessly.
If they went five days without food, they would not merely lose the right to invoke the Law of the Gifted Fist—they would not even be able to crawl.
Of course, there were people with better constitutions who, after sufficient training, might actually have been able to do it.
Lang Sheng took his labor contract. It stated how much money he owed, that he had been sold to the mine owner to work off the debt, how much of his monthly wages belonged to the mine owner, and how much went to his creditor. No wonder he had somehow become a white-collar worker on payday after doing all the calculations. So much had already been deducted from his earnings…
He tore the contract in two.
At that moment, the worker who had stayed beside him all along handed him a bowl of instant noodles.
“Brother, you’re unbelievably tough. I warned you not to do this, but you went ahead anyway. Thank goodness you held on,” the worker said, still shaken.
He had accompanied Lang Sheng throughout the entire ordeal, watching with his own eyes as the man starved himself to the brink of death before going to settle accounts with the mine owner.
Because of the blue light, the mine owner had been unable to use force and could only take the beating. More importantly, with all that fat on him, he was out of breath after only a few steps and could not even outrun Lang Sheng…
The henchmen had been unable to flee either. All they could do was huddle around their boss as tightly as possible, trapping themselves in the process. There was no better example of being cocooned by one’s own actions.
“Now that I think about it, the light of protection bestowed by God has mostly been protecting those villains,” the bespectacled middle-aged man said with a sigh. “Good people have no desire to harm others, so we can’t take advantage of it. But the villains devote themselves to exploiting loopholes in that protection and have developed all kinds of deceptive schemes! This is nothing less than bad money driving out good!”
“Don’t worry. From now on, I’ll organize an army to save the desperate and punish the wicked! I’ll make sure those villains never again have room to harm anyone!” Lang Sheng said.
After eating the instant noodles, he felt as though his entire being had been elevated.

This was no ordinary bowl of instant noodles.
It was revolutionary nourishment.
That was the result of a month spent studying. In the end, he had discovered that a person truly had to be ruthless with himself before he could find a way out.
He loved reading and enjoyed thinking. After studying dozens of books obtained through exchanges, he had finally discovered this enormous loophole.
Or perhaps it could not really be called a loophole. After all, anyone who starved himself to this point would no longer have the strength to use his fists.
But Lang Sheng was different. He could accomplish this because he possessed mental power. As long as he remained conscious, he could continue to use the strength of his mind.
At that moment, he made a decision: he would spread the method of mental cultivation among the people here.
As long as one possessed a strong mind and an unyielding will, flesh and blood could overcome steel!
The truly powerful had always been those who retained kindness in their hearts, because they dared to sacrifice themselves. Those who sought profit by deceiving and harming others could never become genuinely powerful, because they despised sacrifice in the very marrow of their bones.
He believed that what he was doing was true benevolence and universal love, the highest goodness and the purest beauty. Only in this way could he ensure that the Good Person System would never be separated from him.
Inside the mine, the workers were filled with complicated emotions.
Since they had fallen into such a state, they were not bad people. At the very least, they had never deliberately harmed anyone else.
“I’ll join you!” The bespectacled man suddenly gritted his teeth. “What’s the big deal about starving for a few days? My life is already worse than death. I might as well risk everything and fight alongside you! What are we afraid of? They can’t hit us!”
“That’s right. If we have to go hungry for a few days, then so be it. It’s still better than living every day without hope!”
Clearly, under the protection of the blue light, these people possessed far more courage than those on Earth who were trapped beneath oppression.
Those people had to be pushed to the absolute limit—unable even to survive after selling their sons and daughters—before they would rise up in revolt. These workers did not need to be driven quite so far. As long as they saw hope, as long as they saw a road ahead, they were willing to take the risk and fight.
Taking advantage of the crowd’s rising fury, the mine owner and his henchmen had already begun crawling away in secret.
They had to warn the others at once.
The sheep were about to rise up and devour the wolves.
