Chapter 100: Poaching Customers
Zhang Wei's ability to read minds could only detect the person's current thoughts, not the deep memories buried in their heart. That was why he had proactively brought up the big client and the phone number, to jog Wang Zhen's memory and pierce through his innermost intentions.
Zhang Wei's earlier words had little logical structure to them. He was mainly trying to induce Wang Zhen to consider the matter of clients. Wang Zhen even felt that his words were contradictory, and he had no idea why Zhang Wei had told him that there was a relative of the police chief in his store who wanted to buy a house.
Was it that Zhang Wei wanted to curry favor with him, get the man who had knocked him out fired, or had this fellow truly been beaten senseless and not known what he was saying?
However, Wang Zhen was genuinely startled when he heard that Zhang Wei's store had a relative of the police chief interested in buying a house. He assumed it was the daughter of the deputy director of the permanent office of the Public Security Bureau, who refused to buy in his store and had gone to another agency instead.
If that were true, it would mean he had felt his service was inadequate. If he had left a bad impression on the deputy director, his uncle's efforts would be wasted.
Wang Zhen noticed that the phone number's ending did not match what he remembered, and his heart relaxed. He asked again, "What's the surname of the relative of the police chief you mentioned?"
"Oh, that woman is surnamed Wang," Zhang Wei replied, casually inventing a surname.
"No, the daughter of the deputy director of the permanent office of the Public Security Bureau is surnamed Li. It is completely different from what you described. It definitely isn't the same person," Wang Zhen thought to himself.
Wang Zhen's thoughts had also been seen through by Zhang Wei. At this moment, Zhang Wei had thoroughly mastered the client's details—identity, gender, phone number, and surname—all clearly in hand. Contacting her would not seem out of the blue at all.
"That's enough. I don't know that relative of the police chief. I have to go now." Hearing the discrepancy between Zhang Wei's situation and his own customer, and realizing they were not the same person, he had no interest in continuing the farce. He dismissed the matter with a wave and left with Wang Ying.
"Brother Wang, what on earth does this Zhang Wei want? Is he trying to curry favor with you, or is he trying to extract customer information from you? I always feel his words are a bit strange, and his attitude toward you is overly enthusiastic." Wang Ying frowned, looped her arm through Wang Zhen's, and asked softly.
"I don't know either. His words seem to have no logic to them, as if he wants to extract customer details from me, but I didn't say anything. How could he know anything?" Wang Zhen shook his head and replied.
"But this kid is really pitiful. I snatched his client, got knocked out by you, and now he doesn't know what's going on. He actually came to us to complain. He's truly too foolish." Wang Ying chuckled softly.
After they left, the Zhang Wei whom Wang Zhen and Wang Ying considered foolish returned to the Zhongtong agency. Although he had obtained the deputy director's daughter's phone number and knew she wanted to buy a house, he did not call immediately.
He entered the phone number into a search engine and then checked for any related information. After some searching, he found a post containing this phone number.
The information was also related to real estate, but it was a rental request posted more than a year earlier. Zhang Wei still read the post carefully, as he only needed a pretext to contact the other party.
If he had directly asked whether she wanted to buy a house, she would have asked how he knew. Zhang Wei would then have struggled to find a proper reason and might easily have been seen as having ulterior motives.
However, once he learned of the old post, he only needed to call and ask whether she had any renting or buying needs. She would instinctively ask how he knew, and Zhang Wei could say he had seen the post, thereby proving the reasonableness of his information.
With a reasonable pretext, he could then discuss house matters and arrange a viewing. As long as he had the opportunity to show her properties, there was a high chance of closing the deal.
After sorting out his thoughts, Zhang Wei picked up the phone from the desk and dialed the number for Miss Li. Upon connection, he asked, "Hello, is this Miss Li?"
"I'm Li Yun. Who is this?" A young woman's voice came through the phone. It was indeed Li Yun, the daughter of the deputy director of the permanent office of the Public Security Bureau.
"I'm from Zhongtong Real Estate Agency. Do you have any needs for buying or renting a house?" Zhang Wei asked.
"How do you know that? I don't think I've used an agency before," Li Yun asked in surprise.
Li Yun did indeed want to buy an apartment. She had told her father her idea, but before she could contact an agency, her father had already found one for her. She heard it was opened by a relative of her father's subordinate, so she did not look for others. That was why she was puzzled why another agency knew she wanted to buy.
"That's right. I saw a rental post you posted online, so I called to ask if you've rented a house."
"You really do business too carelessly. My rental post should be from over a year ago. If I haven't rented anything in so long, I'll sleep on the street!" Li Yun was amused by Zhang Wei's words.
"I saw the post time as well. I know it was a year ago. Most house rentals are signed for one year, so I wanted to check whether your house's contract has expired. If so, do you still need to rent or buy?"
Zhang Wei dealt with real estate every day and found it easy to come up with a reasonable pretext.
"Oh, so I misunderstood you. Not only are you not careless, but you know the industry's rules well. My rented house has indeed expired, and I'm now preparing to buy a house," Li Yun said, somewhat surprised. Seeing Zhang Wei guess her situation so thoroughly, she looked at him with new respect.
"Then what size of house would you like to buy? Where approximately? I can help you find suitable options."
Zhang Wei asked when he heard Li Yun admit she wanted to buy, knowing she had lowered her guard, and his heart lifted.
"I want a duplex two-bedroom. The bathroom should be as large as possible, the floor as high as possible, with a price around three million. Near Tianyuan Road would be fine. Do you have anything suitable?"
"There are suitable options, and viewing is available at any time. Do you have time this afternoon?"
"I'm currently on a business trip outside. Which time works? Wait until next week when I return, then I'll call you again." Li Yun frowned. Mentioning the business trip reminded her of roaming fees, and she almost wanted to hang up.
"Very well. I'll keep monitoring the duplex two-bedroom these next two days. If I find any good sources, I'll let you know right away. Keep in touch."
"Alright, but don't call after eight in the evening. I won't answer."
Li Yun instructed, then hung up.
"This woman has quite a temperament. She truly lives up to being the daughter of a police chief," Zhang Wei said as he hung up as well. He shook his head and laughed. Having found two customers in one morning was quite a harvest, and he felt even more satisfied.
