Chapter Ninety-Six: Resignation
Thanks to “Beijing’s Fifth Master” for becoming this book’s first patron!!!
As for Wang Min’s decision to resign, Zhang Wei was only briefly surprised. He did not feel much concern or shock, because the two of them were not especially close, and Wang Min’s departure had little real impact on him.
The real estate agency business had a very high employee turnover rate. Wang Min was not the first colleague to leave. In the three months since Zhang Wei had come to the Zhongtong branch, three employees, including Wang Min, had already resigned.
Some left for higher pay and better positions by moving to other real estate agencies. Others left the industry altogether because they could not make money. After seeing enough people come and go, enough things rise and fall, Zhang Wei had gradually grown used to it.
Xu Ming only mentioned Wang Min’s resignation in passing and did not want to dwell on it. After all, Wang Min leaving would have some effect on the team’s morale. The reason Xu Ming brought up the matter of hiring new staff to Zhang Wei was simply to give him a warning in advance, so that Zhang Wei would not be too startled when the time came.
Xu Ming also chatted with Zhang Wei about some other matters in the shop, all of which had happened after Zhang Wei went home. This was also meant to help Zhang Wei get a clear grasp of the branch’s current situation and settle into work as quickly as possible, so that he could continue the brilliance of his previous performance rather than becoming merely a fleeting, shining meteor.
After a long conversation with Xu Ming, Zhang Wei had a rough understanding of the branch’s situation. After seeing Xu Ming back to the shop, Zhang Wei did not follow him in. Instead, since it was still early, he parked his BMW 730 in a public parking space in the residential complex. Otherwise, once the parking rush began, he might not even be able to find a space.
Yayuan Community could be considered a fairly upscale residential complex in the capital. The environment and public facilities were both quite good, and not far from the Zhongtong branch there was a row of public parking spaces. Zhang Wei happened to park there, and it was only a few dozen steps back and forth.
After parking the BMW 730, Zhang Wei got out and was about to return to the Zhongtong branch when he saw Wang Min coming out of the shop and walking toward him. Zhang Wei guessed she probably had something to say, so he did not rush back inside. Instead, he stopped where he was.
“Zhang Wei, congratulations. You’re already driving a BMW 730 now. Really enviable!” Wang Min walked up to Zhang Wei and, for once, offered him sincere congratulations.
“What, are you doing the whole ‘a dying man’s words are kind’ thing now?” Zhang Wei said with a smile.
Because Wang Min had some misunderstandings about Zhang Wei, she had always liked to banter with him. This time, however, her congratulations were unusually genuine, and Zhang Wei could not help teasing her a little.
“So you want me to mock you a few times, is that it? Then you’d feel more comfortable,” Wang Min said.
“No need. This is fine,” Zhang Wei said, shaking his head. Then, with a puzzled look, he asked, “Did you come looking for me for something?”
“Didn’t we originally agree to rent a place together? My family has some matters now, so I have to resign. That means I can’t share the apartment with you anymore, so I wanted to apologize,” Wang Min said, a trace of remorse appearing on her face.
“It’s fine. I’ll just rent it to someone else,” Zhang Wei said carelessly, waving a hand.
With Zhang Wei’s means, he would not care about this small amount of money. Besides, since Wang Min was no longer renting, he could simply rent it to someone else. He was in the real estate business after all; it was only a matter of convenience.
“To show my apology, I even found you a new tenant. And this tenant isn’t just a beauty, she’s also a female host interning at CCTV,” Wang Min said with a sweet laugh, shaking the slip of paper with the phone number written on it.
“Really? You’ve already arranged a viewing with this client?” Zhang Wei asked in surprise and curiosity.
“No. I’ve only spoken with her on the phone twice. Her voice sounds very sweet, and considering she’s a trainee host, I figure she must be a beauty,” Wang Min guessed.
“In this day and age, the ones who look beautiful from behind all turn terrifying once they turn around. What can you really tell just by hearing a voice?” Zhang Wei said dismissively.
“Fine. I already found you a tenant, so that counts as making up for your loss. As for whether she’s beautiful or not, that has nothing to do with me,” Wang Min said, rolling her eyes. Without another word, she pressed the slip of paper into Zhang Wei’s hand and turned back toward the Zhongtong branch.
Zhang Wei smiled and did not continue dwelling on the matter. As for whether that tenant was beautiful, he did not care all that much. In any case, now that Zhang Wei possessed mind-reading abilities, earning a fortune worth billions would not be difficult. By then, would he really have to worry about lacking women around him?
Today was Zhang Wei’s first day back at the branch, and there were many things waiting for him to handle. After returning to the shop, he turned on the computer and began browsing the property listings in the property system, organizing quality listings into his notebook.
Merely sorting through the various property listings took Zhang Wei a full morning. After lunch, he opened the 58 City website and began organizing rental posts online, updating the latest property information on the platform.
After Zhang Wei finished sorting the online posts, he began calling back previous clients, following up on their current intentions to buy or rent, and filtering out the clients most likely to close a deal so he could move on to the next step: further follow-up and arranging viewings.
By the time Zhang Wei had finished all of this, it was almost time to get off work. The day’s work was basically over. Using this one day, Zhang Wei had more or less grasped the property and client information that had been delayed over the previous seven days.
The next day, Zhang Wei arrived at the Zhongtong branch early in the morning. After the morning meeting, he still did not see Wang Min anywhere, and her desk was empty as well. Zhang Wei knew Wang Min must have already resigned, and he could not help feeling a little lonely.
He was not the only one. The other members of Xu Ming’s team also looked somewhat downcast. Regardless of how everyone usually got along, they had still worked together for several months. When someone suddenly left, it was only natural that people would find it hard to adjust.
Unlike the low morale in Xu Ming’s team, the seven people in Su Ning’s team were brimming with fighting spirit. Each of them was making calls with great energy, either asking about and following up on property information or checking in with their own clients. The entire shop was filled with the sound of phone ringtones.
The contrast between these two work atmospheres caught Xu Ming’s attention as he sat in the back of the shop, and he could not help frowning. Still, it was not appropriate to say much at the moment. He could only wait until the evening when the two teams held their separate meetings, and then try to boost morale a little.
Ring ring ring...
Just as Zhang Wei opened the computer and refreshed the online posts, the phone on the desk suddenly rang. He glanced at the number on the screen. It was an unfamiliar one.
Zhang Wei immediately became alert. An unknown call very likely meant a new client. He pressed the answer button and said, “Hello, good day.”
