Regarding Xu Mingsheng’s promotion to regional manager, Zhang Wei also felt somewhat surprised. Xu had always been very low-key, showing no signs of advancement, so it was unexpected that today he was suddenly promoted to regional manager.
Although Zhang Wei was puzzled, he didn’t dare to ask directly. After all, everyone has their secrets. If this matter was related to Xu’s personal affairs, asking without thinking could affect their relationship, regardless of whether Xu chose to answer.
Even the closest friends must maintain some distance; only then can their friendship endure.
What Zhang Wei cared about more now was his own promotion to store manager. He had been working in society for some time but had always been at the bottom rung, lacking any management experience. The position of store manager at Zhongtong offered him a valuable opportunity to develop his skills.
Zhang Wei believed that laying a solid foundation was crucial for going further. It had only been a month since he acquired his mind-reading ability, yet his life had undergone a drastic transformation. Not only did he now have assets worth over a million yuan, but he also owned a luxury car.
Compared to before—when he earned barely two thousand a month and lived in a basement, meticulously budgeting every day—his life was vastly improved. Zhang Wei was confident that within a year, he would undergo a qualitative leap and perhaps even become a true tycoon.
To earn his promotion to store manager, Zhang Wei needed not only recommendations from Han Zhong and Xu Ming but also to prove his own strength and diligence. If he could close one more big deal in the next half month, it would greatly boost his chances.
Fortunately, Zhang Wei currently had a potential deal on his hands—a client named Li Yun, who had been transferred from Wang Zhen. Since Li Yun had been on a business trip out of town, Zhang Wei had been communicating with her over the phone. Judging by his guess, she might have returned to the capital today.
In the afternoon, Zhang Wei double-checked the properties he had found for Li Yun. Except for one where the owner was unavailable to show the house, the other three duplex two-bedroom units were ready for viewing. At 7:30 in the evening, Zhang Wei promptly called Li Yun.
“Hello, is this Sister Li? This is Zhang Wei from Zhongtong Company,” Zhang Wei said with a smile after the call connected.
“No need to say, I already know it’s you. At this hour, no one else would be calling,” Li Yun muttered on the other end.
“Sister Li, have you returned to the city today?” Zhang Wei asked.
“I arrived this morning,” Li Yun replied.
“Oh, do you have time to see the houses now? The duplex two-bedroom units I found for you are quite good,” Zhang Wei suggested.
“Let’s talk tomorrow. I just got back this morning. The agency my dad recommended already contacted me. I spent all afternoon with them looking at houses. I’m exhausted and have no energy to tour with you now,” Li Yun said impatiently.
“Alright, then let’s meet tomorrow morning at nine. I’ll send you our company’s address. When you’re nearby, just call me, and I’ll come to pick you up,” Zhang Wei said.
Hearing that Li Yun had already looked at houses with another agency, Zhang Wei showed no surprise. The agency she referred to was likely Tian Tian Agency, one whose shareholders included her father’s subordinate.
In terms of closeness and trust, Zhang Wei knew he couldn’t compete with Tian Tian Agency. So he deliberately scheduled the viewing a bit later—to avoid direct confrontation and because it’s rare for a house purchase to be sealed in just one showing.
Just because one agent shows a client a property first doesn’t mean the client will definitely buy from them. If the following agent is skilled, they can win the client over, even learn about properties shown by other agencies.
“Okay, then let’s meet tomorrow at nine,” Li Yun answered somewhat distractedly.
“Rest well tonight. I’ll send you a message shortly. See you tomorrow,” Zhang Wei said.
“Okay, goodbye,” Li Yun replied and hung up.
A few minutes later, Zhang Wei sent a text to Li Yun, then took a sip of water. He noticed Wang Jianfa staring at him with curiosity and asked, “Got something on your mind?”
“No, why would I be staring if I had something to do?” Wang Jianfa said lazily.
“If you don’t have anything, then help me find some properties. I have a reliable client looking for a duplex two-bedroom. If you find a good place, I can close the deal,” Zhang Wei said.
“Sure, tell me the client’s requirements,” Wang Jianfa nodded.
If Wang Jianfa found a property that was sold by another colleague, he would still earn 20% of the commission for the listing—more than what he’d get from just renting out a property. Naturally, he wouldn’t refuse.
Most agents preferred to focus on bringing clients because they earned 80% of the commission, four times more than from just listings. Plus, even if they found a good property, there’s no guarantee it would sell.
Wang Jianfa’s situation was special. His client acquisition skills were average, and he had few reliable clients. Closing a deal alone was difficult. But he trusted Zhang Wei’s ability, so he was willing to help find suitable properties.
If it were Li Lin or Guo Bin, they might not be so willing, as they had their own clients to handle and wouldn’t rely on Zhang Wei for deals.
Zhang Wei shared the client’s property needs with Wang Jianfa, and the two began their search. They first checked the Fangyou system again, then scoured new listings online, and finally called property owners to inquire about selling intentions.
They worked from after 7 p.m. until closing time but unfortunately found no suitable properties. However, the real estate business was never smooth sailing, so they didn’t take it too hard. They agreed to come early the next day to show the client around, then left the Zhongtong store together.
The next morning at eight, Zhang Wei arrived early at the Zhongtong store. Just as he opened the door, Wang Jianfa arrived too. After clocking in and logging into the Fangyou system, they busied themselves before Zhang Wei called Li Yun.
He learned that Li Yun had already driven out and would arrive near Yayuan Community before nine. Zhang Wei and Wang Jianfa quickly divided the tasks: Zhang Wei would greet the client, and Wang Jianfa would help borrow the keys to the properties.
Approaching nine, Zhang Wei called Li Yun again and was told she was near Yayuan Community. Zhang Wei hurried to the entrance to meet them.
To avoid losing each other, Zhang Wei kept the line open, describing his clothes and location. When he reached the road outside the community, he saw a white Audi A4 approaching. The car stopped in front of him, honking twice.
“Beep beep…” The driver’s window rolled down slowly, revealing a woman in her twenties who sized Zhang Wei up and asked, “Are you Xiao Zhang from Zhongtong?”
“Sister Li, hello! I’m Zhang Wei,” he greeted warmly.
Looking through the window, Zhang Wei noticed a man sitting beside Li Yun—a man he recognized. A flicker of surprise crossed his face as he thought, “What is he doing here? And what’s his relationship with Li Yun?”
