Chapter Eighteen: The Class Change Quest Begins
When he had slain around twenty Earth Bull Beasts, Li Yunfei ascended to level 9, and finally, the beast dropped an item.
It was a long-handled weapon, shaped much like the scythe wielded by Death, but even more savage and sinister in appearance.
Ant Lion Jaw Scythe: Its entire body was dark brown, curved in shape, with a blade half a meter long, serrated on the inner edge, and a razor-sharp tip. The long handle wasn’t straight but gently curved into a subtle S-shape, making it easier to exert force when swinging.
Thanks to its sharp tip, it could also be used like a halberd to jab.
One could imagine the tip piercing into a target’s body, and then being yanked back, leaving a gaping wound.
In terms of pure physical damage, the Ant Lion Jaw Scythe was clearly superior to the Corrosive Ant Leg Blade.
Yet, the toxic corrosive effect of the Corrosive Ant Leg Blade made its damage output even greater than the scythe’s.
Still, when facing large monsters in major dungeons, the Ant Lion Jaw Scythe was much more suitable than the Ant Leg Blade.
Li Yunfei stowed the scythe, allocated his attribute points, and, now at full strength, continued his monster hunt.
This time, instead of his usual 3 points in Strength and 2 in Agility, he allocated 1 point to Strength, 2 to Agility, 1 to Constitution, and 1 to Energy.
His attributes now read: Strength 30 (10), Agility 24 (8), Constitution 24 (10), Energy 14 (7).
Strength and Agility were now triple that of an ordinary person, and even his weakest attribute, Energy, had doubled.
At this point, Li Yunfei’s physical prowess far surpassed that of a typical elite special forces soldier.
…
Earth Bull Beasts didn’t drop any defensive gear, since their own defenses were weak; their only equipment was the Ant Lion Jaw Scythe.
After reaching level 9, their experience yield dropped to 1%.
In other words, Li Yunfei had to slay a full hundred Earth Bull Beasts to reach level 10.
Judging by the number of craters dotting the desert, it was clear there weren’t a hundred left. But if he included the Boss, the Ant Lion King, that should be enough for him to level up.
Li Yunfei had long anticipated what skill the little fox would unlock at level 10, so aside from taking sips of water, he hunted monsters without pause.
About an hour and a half later, Li Yunfei finally finished off the last Earth Bull Beast and arrived at the final, massive crater, more than twenty meters in diameter.
His experience bar was now less than 10% away from level 10.
Back at level 7, the level 5 Ant Queen still granted him over ten percent experience. So this level 7 Ant Lion King should give no less.
As usual, the little fox went ahead to lure the boss. The vibrations were louder than ever before, and soon, the Ant Lion King revealed itself.
It was on the verge of evolving into a mature form, its body slimmer than the Earth Bull Beast’s but not as bulky, and its length exceeded eight meters.

On its back had evolved a dense network of transparent, delicate wings. With a bit more time, it would be able to fly.
This made the Ant Lion King more agile than the Earth Bull Beasts, but it was still no match for Li Yunfei’s agility, which was three times that of a normal human.
In less than half an hour, the Ant Lion King succumbed to the accumulating corrosive poison, its body torn and ragged, its health bar depleted, and died.
“Dungeon cleared. Would you like to exit?”
“Congratulations, host, you have reached level 10. Job transfer quest unlocked. Please check the skill panel for details.”
“Congratulations, host’s pet has reached level 10. First-tier skill unlocked. Please check the pet panel for details.”
Upon hearing these two system prompts, Li Yunfei was ecstatic.
It turned out that level 10 was not only the point where the little fox unlocked a new skill, but also where he could change profession and gain new abilities.
Without even checking the items dropped by the Ant Lion King, Li Yunfei immediately opened the system interface and flipped to the skill panel.
He saw three options displayed: Warrior, Mage, Taoist.
Beneath the three choices: Select a class to begin the job transfer quest.
Li Yunfei carefully examined the descriptions of each class.
Warrior: Forge the body, temper the flesh, cultivate martial energy, condense martial intent, shatter the void, attain sainthood in the flesh.
Mage: Deep contemplation, refine the mind, cultivate elemental magic, master the elements, condense a divine core, become a god of magic.
Taoist: Refine essence into qi, refine qi into spirit, cultivate Daoist spiritual power, absorb and emit the energies of heaven and earth, transcend the mundane, attain immortality.
After reading the descriptions, Li Yunfei immediately understood.
They all seemed impressive at their peak, but that was only at the end of their cultivation.
Early on, the Warrior was too crude, lacking any flair—combat was all brute force, just like what he was doing now.
The Mage had plenty of flair, but its weakness was obvious: the body was fragile, and once an enemy got close, it was game over.
From Li Yunfei’s perspective, the Mage was essentially the Western wizard—not a true Taoist sorcerer of the Great Xia.
There was really no question; he would absolutely choose Taoist!
The Taoist class offered both mystical talismanic magic and close combat with blades.
Spiritual power could serve as both true energy and magical power, effective at all ranges, useful for both martial and magical combat.
Though its close combat wasn’t as strong as the Warrior’s, it gained plenty from the auxiliary boosts of talismans and spells.

Its magic wasn’t as pure as the Mage’s, nor was spellcasting as convenient, but it was little more than drawing a talisman or chanting an incantation.
Consider… Taoist master Lin Jiushu, skilled in both Daoist arts and martial prowess—setting up altars to exorcise demons, using fists to battle zombies.
Whether in close combat or ranged magical duels, the Taoist never shrinks back. So…
“Select class: Taoist.”
The Warrior and Mage options vanished, leaving only Taoist. Beneath it, two new options appeared: Zhengyi Sect, Quanzhen Sect.
Li Yunfei chuckled—was there even a choice to make?
Setting aside which sect’s Daoist arts were stronger, one detail made it clear.
The Zhengyi Sect allowed marriage and the passing of Daoist arts from father to son.
The Quanzhen Sect required monastic vows, and its arts were transmitted teacher to disciple. So which should he choose?
“Select Zhengyi Sect.”
The Quanzhen option disappeared, and beneath Zhengyi, three choices appeared: Maoshan Dao, Laoshan Dao, Celestial Master Dao.
Li Yunfei didn’t deliberate long. The Daoist arts of all three were more or less equivalent; what decided his choice was sentiment.
“Select Maoshan Dao.”
Laoshan and Celestial Master Dao vanished, and now under Maoshan Dao, three more options appeared: Shenxiao Sect, Shangqing Sect, Tiandao Sect.
This time, Li Yunfei considered briefly, researched each sect, and made his decision.
“Select Shangqing Sect.”
“Class selection complete. Host has chosen: Zhengyi Sect, Maoshan Dao, Shangqing Sect. Job transfer quest, first stage… begins.”
Below, the specifics of the quest appeared.
Job Transfer Quest, Stage One: Collect 10 grams of cinnabar, 30 milliliters of rooster’s blood, 20 milliliters of boy’s urine, one foot of yellow paper, and one brush.
Note: The purer the cinnabar, the better; the older the rooster, the better.
Reward for Stage One: Unlock spiritual power value, method for channeling spiritual power, Eye-Opening Spell.
Stage Two will unlock upon completion of Stage One.
