Chapter Ninety-Three: Power Pill
The green zombie was swiftly wiped out, and the final boss appeared.
This time, however, the boss was not the Skeleton King, but a burly, towering hairy zombie.
Only then did Li Yunfei realize that the bosses in the Graveyard and Mass Burial Ground dungeons were not fixed to a single type of monster.
As expected, the bosses were likely chosen at random from zombies, skeletons, ghosts, and walking corpses.
The hairy zombie possessed immense strength and a body as hard as iron, impervious to blades and spears, almost completely immune to physical attacks.
After rising from its grave, it could leap ten feet high and fifteen or twenty feet in a single bound. Though the thunder sea slowly wore down its corpse aura, its movements were scarcely hindered.
The methods that had worked against the green zombie and the Skeleton King were useless against the hairy zombie.
But Li Yunfei was unafraid. His cultivation had now reached the Nether Spirit Realm, and the strength of his spiritual power had undergone a qualitative change.
Though he still could not sustain the use of flying swords for long, he was no longer exhausted after only a few minutes.
At once, he activated the exorcising power of the Eight Trigrams Taoist Robe, summoned the Green Venom Flying Sword, and plunged straight into the thunder sea.
This time, he intended to bring down the boss with his own hands.
The Bloodthirsty Flying Sword had originally been dropped by zombies; using it against a zombie would probably be of little effect. It was better to use the Green Venom Flying Sword dropped by the Skeleton King.
Perhaps the bone-spirit green venom could not melt the flesh and skin of the hairy zombie, but it should at least do some damage. That was still better than the Bloodthirsty Flying Sword, which might not add even the slightest bit of extra harm.
In the blink of an eye, the hairy zombie had reached the edge of the thunder sea, and from midair it pounced down toward Li Yunfei.
With a thought, the Green Venom Flying Sword floating before him shot forth, turning into a streak of green light that met the hairy zombie head-on.
His spiritual power circulated by the secret methods of Maoshan, transforming into exorcising force. Through his divine sense as a bridge, it poured endlessly into the sword.
The Green Venom Flying Sword blazed brighter and sped faster.
With a thunderous crash, sword and zombie collided in a direct impact, rebounding as the sword spun back through the air. Li Yunfei’s entire body also gave a slight tremor.
Only a bit of shock was all it was; it could not cause him any real trouble.
This sword strike was neither dodged nor evaded. He had gone straight against the hairy zombie in a hard clash, yet it had only left a shallow wound on its body.
But that tiny wound was enough to turn the hairy zombie green all over, and the rate at which its corpse aura dispersed immediately increased.
And the hairy zombie itself, stunned by the recoil, flew backward and landed once more deep within the thunder sea.
Li Yunfei’s first priority was to keep the hairy zombie pinned within the range of the thunder sea. Only after that did he consider what kind of attack would most efficiently erode its corpse aura.
Now that he had entered the Nether Spirit Realm, he had also mastered more than a dozen powerful talismans. Without hesitation, he used them.
He raised his sword fingers, and two blue True Fire Talismans appeared at his fingertips. With a light flick, they burst into flame.
Li Yunfei chanted, “Supreme One True Talismans, essence of the Eight Sceneries, purple fire that burns the heavens, shining across the Three Pure Ones, burning heaven and boiling sea, purging demons and monsters. I obey the command of the Supreme Lord Laozi. Swiftly, by decree!”
The two fire talismans shot out. Ordinary flames transformed into dark purple infernal fire, and upon striking the hairy zombie they exploded at once, turning it into a blazing torch.
The purple flames were extremely strange. The outer layer burned fiercely like any other fire, but the layer clinging to the target’s body was like a fluid, flowing in a haze over its flesh and clinging to it with deathlike tenacity.
The Purple Heaven Burning Flame Curse was an advanced fire talisman, far more powerful than the Three-Fold Mysterious Fire Curse or the Six Ding Divine Fire Curse.
The Purple Heaven Burning Flame was the fire emitted by the Earth Lamp among the Three Lamps of Heaven, Earth, and Man—in other words, the “Eight Sceneries Palace Lamp” of Supreme Lord Laozi. Its might was limitless, with the power to burn heaven and boil the sea.
Fire conjured by talisman was, of course, not the true Purple Heaven Burning Flame, yet it still possessed its characteristics: searing heat and overwhelming exorcising force.
The hairy zombie let out a furious roar to the heavens, corpse aura erupting madly as it struggled to extinguish the purple fire.
But to extinguish one part of the purple flame, it had to pay a tenfold price. Its health bar dropped like water flowing from a broken dam.
Even so, Li Yunfei kept firing True Fire Talismans empowered by the Purple Heaven Burning Flame Curse. Whenever the hairy zombie lunged at him, he would summon his flying sword and blast it back.
After nearly twenty minutes, the hairy zombie’s health finally reached zero. Its towering, burly form shrank rapidly within the purple fire, not even given the chance to turn to charcoal before it was directly reduced to flying ash.
With the hairy zombie destroyed, Li Yunfei and Honghong each rose to level 41, while the skeleton warrior reached level 34.
“Dungeon cleared. Leave now?”
At the system prompt, Li Yunfei recalled the Green Venom Flying Sword, formed a hand seal with both hands, and shouted, “Retract!”
The thunder sea vanished at once. The eight talismans of the Eight Directions Savage Thunder Array disappeared from sight, and the thunderclouds overhead dispersed as well.
Just as Li Yunfei was retracting the array, Honghong’s figure suddenly appeared beside him. She stared at the spot where the hairy zombie had vanished, pressed her right index finger to the corner of her mouth, and said excitedly, “Master, master, that zombie seems to have dropped something really good.”
Following Honghong’s gaze, Li Yunfei saw a brown pill the size of a longan on the ground, faintly glowing with a heavy, earthy light.
His eyes lit up as well. Apart from its color, the pill looked exactly like the Blood Pill and the Soul Pill. Could it be another elixir that permanently increased attributes?
With a thought, the pill flew into his hand. As its information surfaced in his mind, a smile spread across Li Yunfei’s face.
Strength Pill: Consuming one permanently increases Strength by 20 points. Each person may consume at most five; any beyond five have no effect.
Li Yunfei smiled at Honghong. “You little clever thing, you really called it. This is truly a rare treasure.”
He immediately sold the Strength Pill to the system store. Its price was the same as the Blood Pill. He then spent 8,000 grams of spiritual stones to buy ten more, giving five to Honghong.
“Eat up. Once you finish these, you’ll become a little diamond-powered loli, hahaha.”
Of course, that was only a joke. Their bodies were datafied; only their attributes would increase, not their physical forms.
A “diamond-powered loli” simply meant a tiny body concealing terrifying strength.
After taking the Strength Pill, Li Yunfei’s four attributes became: Strength 192 (10), Agility 85 (8), Constitution 215 (10), Energy 175 (7).
Aside from Agility, Strength had finally caught up with Constitution and Energy.
It seemed that all four attributes had corresponding permanent enhancement pills. The only question was what sort of thing would drop the Agility Pill.
Yet when he thought about it carefully, the weasel seemed to have extraordinarily high Agility, able to scale walls and trees and dart across rooftops as though walking on level ground, while moving at tremendous speed.
In that respect, a fox of the same level was inferior to a weasel; after all, mustelid creatures were naturally more agile than canines.
Perhaps the Yellow Immortal dungeon would drop an Agility Pill. If so, then all four attributes would be brought up to speed.
When Honghong had been in fox form, her four attributes had not been displayed. But after she transformed into human form, they had appeared.
At this moment, her attributes were: Strength 173 (10), Agility 155 (8), Constitution 174 (10), Energy 173 (7).
It was clear that the points she had gained upon leveling had gone mainly into Agility. Her Agility was nearly twice Li Yunfei’s, while the other three were more evenly balanced and all lower than his.
With such attributes, if cultivation level and techniques were ignored and they fought purely with their bodies, Li Yunfei would be beaten to the point of utter helplessness.
After all, when the difference in the other attributes was not too great, such a huge advantage in Agility was enough to completely overwhelm the opponent.
But Li Yunfei’s much higher Constitution granted him such formidable defense that Honghong’s attacks would become as good as harmless.
Each had his or her own advantage, and neither could do much to the other.
