Chapter 100: The Great Spell
"The level cap is only twenty!"
"This completely sets the little prince's true qi as the absolute limit!"
The royal mages were deeply dissatisfied with the level settings, but their attention was soon diverted by something else.
"Heavens, Greenbeard is already level three! That hypocrite tells me every day not to rush, yet he’s the fastest cultivator among us!"
"Greenbeard, you played me! I'm only level one, and you're already level three!"
"No wonder you gave me that rare pedigree dog and said it was to cultivate my character—damn it! I was busy scooping its poop every day while you sneaked off to cultivate!"
"What? You received a Hachi too?"
"Greenbeard, you son of a bitch!"
Because the levels were exposed, the royal mages discovered a devious traitor in their midst.
Enraged, the mages beat the culprit half to death, and it took two days for the commotion to die down.
Their attention then shifted back to the new system. Currently, the system had no functions other than showing levels, but since it was designed specifically for the cultivation program, the mages could not wait to input the spells they had already completed.
"Guardian, why can't we use the Grand Cosmic Shift?"
They had coveted Lin Lei's teleportation technique for a long time, but they had never been able to use it before. Surely, it was a matter of level.
The Guardian analyzed for a long moment. "This spell requires level ten to cast."
The royal mages rejoiced; it truly was a level issue.
"What about the Boundless Divine Art?"
"Detonation can be learned at level three, but the effects of the Boundless Divine Art can only be utilized by Lin Lei. His true qi properties are different from yours, so the same spell might produce different results when cast by others," the Guardian replied. It did not know whether it was due to the influence of the Azure Dragon or his Dark Elf constitution, but Lin Lei's true qi was just as unique as the boy himself.
The mages pressed on. "What about the Frost River Reflection Fist?"
"It can be used at level five," the Guardian answered. "But it will only have the freezing effect. Punching backward is also a unique trait of Lin Lei's."
The mages turned their gaze toward Lin Lei. So his bizarre, off-beat spells were actually just his personal quirks.
However, this was not bad news for the mages. It meant that the cultivation spells cast by others would actually be stable and normal.
Two days later, Lin Lei completed the system's stability testing and officially launched it.
"Now that we have this, our research will be much easier," Lin Lei said. He had already categorized the levels, establishing a reasonable range of power and destructive capability for cultivators at each tier.
Instead of creating spells blindly, the mages could now customize more stable spells tailored to specific levels.
However, the development of cultivation spells had to be extremely rigorous. Lin Lei warned them that every single spell had to undergo strict testing before it could be added to the level tree.
The mages understood this perfectly. Now that the trunk of cultivation had been established, they knew the importance of caution. If they carelessly grafted random things onto this tree, the entire structure could collapse in an instant.
"Continue testing the system's overall practicality."
After working busily for several days, Lin Lei handed this relatively simple task over to the mages.
The mages still needed to familiarize themselves with the system, and testing it was also a learning process for them. Once they officially began their work, Lin Lei finally got a few days of rest.
He planned to coax the Song of the Azure Sky. It was angry and hadn't paid any attention to him since that day.
"Song of the Azure Sky, come out. Let me tell you a joke..."
"...Look at this, it's something really fun..."
"Wow, what a beautiful dagger. You're practically the belle of the dagger world..."
"Do you eat? I have some delicious food here..."
Lin Lei tried all sorts of tricks to entice the Song of the Azure Sky, but it remained as still as death, completely indifferent to his words, resting silently inside his body.
This state of affairs lasted for seven days, until Lin Lei whistled.
That day, he was using the restroom and idly let out a whistle—suddenly, the Song of the Azure Sky reacted. It flew out of his body and began to circle him excitedly.
"Huh?"
With his pants still unbuttoned, Lin Lei whistled a few more times in disbelief.
The Song of the Azure Sky danced joyfully around him—it liked whistling.
Lin Lei's eyes lit up. "You like songs, you little rascal!"
"Haha, so that's how it is! You should have said so earlier!" Pulling up his pants, Lin Lei continued to whistle in the restroom. The Song of the Azure Sky beat time cheerfully and even began to dance in the air.
Lin Lei's eyes grew brighter and brighter—this fellow was incredibly interesting; it could actually dance to the rhythm of a tune.
It was absolutely to his liking!
From that day on, Lin Lei whistled to the Song of the Azure Sky every day. It danced merrily around him, becoming a peculiar sight in the royal palace.
When the royal mages first saw this, they thought Lin Lei had mastered the flying sword technique and eagerly rushed over to ask for advice.
However, Lin Lei sent these pesky flies packing without hesitation.
Gradually, Lin Lei discovered that the movements of the Song of the Azure Sky followed a distinct pattern. It was exceptionally sensitive to whistling, and singing could also influence it.
The Song of the Azure Sky would perform different movements according to different melodies. Though the movements were highly complex, Lin Lei realized that if he could figure out its patterns, he could control it.
"A dagger controlled by whistling!"
Lin Lei grew more and more delighted. Every morning, he would head to the garden to whistle. When his tune reached a crescendo, the Song of the Azure Sky suddenly soared into the sky and brought down a bird.
"You can even hunt birds..."
Lin Lei stared dumbfounded at the strange bird skewered by the Song of the Azure Sky. The bird's feathers were extraordinarily beautiful; he had never seen such a gorgeous bird in his life.
"Where did this bird come from?"
Lin Lei wondered. Since it appeared inside the royal palace, could it be some kind of protected species?
Oh well, it was already dead anyway...
Lin Lei picked up the bird. "Can't let good food go to waste!"
He hadn't cooked in a long time, so he happily took the bird to brew some soup.
After that, for some unknown reason, the Song of the Azure Sky caught one of these birds every single day, allowing Lin Lei to enjoy a very nourishing breakfast each morning.
During this time, the mages completed all aspects of system testing and moved it into the half-finished mage tower, linking it to the core of Twin Moon City.
The Guardian was now ready to officially develop spells. The mages originally wanted to ask Lin Lei what to do next, but seeing him so busy "walking his sword," they considerately chose not to disturb him.
"Sigh... there's no helping it. Since the little prince is so busy, we'll have to start on our own."
"Exactly! Let's create the first spell!"
The mages rubbed their hands in anticipation and began to create a level one spell.
This was a revolutionary spell they had always wanted to create—arguably the most important one. However, the spell's power was too immense, and their physical bodies were too fragile, so they had never quite succeeded.
But now, they had the new system.
"Gentlemen, let us change the world with our own hands!"
The mages placed their hands together. Putting aside their disputes, they joined forces—harboring a shared dream to forge a brand-new era.
The entire world would remember their names!
"By the way, what should we call this spell?"
"I think... let's call it the Sky-Supporting Pillar!"
