Chapter 120: It Will All Be Over After a Sleep
The hammer whistled past Jarlen’s cheek and shoulder, slamming into the swamp and blasting a massive crater into the mud.
"Bell, you’re actually helping the Demon King!"
Jarlen arched his back, narrowly dodging the blow. He cursed loudly, never imagining that the person he brought along as a witness would end up acting like a brother to Linlei.
"Buddy, you really should have investigated my relationship with my brother first."
Bell swung his hammer, completely ignoring Jarlen’s protests. Jarlen’s retreat was completely blocked by Bell’s weapon. Furious, his gaze pierced through Bell to see Linlei suddenly appear. Linlei flicked his hand, shooting a brilliant golden light forward, which caused Jarlen’s expression to shift dramatically.
"Damn it!"
Jarlen sidestepped, letting the golden light graze his shoulder—the skin there stung as if it were on fire. This was the power of the Song of the Azure Sky. Jarlen seethed; in his eyes, Linlei was no threat, but his weapon was another matter entirely. The Song of the Azure Sky ignored his defenses as if they didn't exist. Jarlen needed to find a way to seize Linlei—but Linlei had already seen through his intentions, using Bell as cover while lurking in the periphery to launch sneak attacks.
Linlei’s speed was too great. He appeared and vanished in flashes, leaving Jarlen unable to lay a hand on him.
"This guy is no warrior!"
Jarlen gritted his teeth. He had heard Linlei was a warrior, but he looked more like a wind-walker or an assassin. He knew in his heart that Linlei was more important than Bell. No matter how Linlei argued otherwise, he was currently the Demon King, while Jarlen was merely an adventurer. Jarlen now had every reason to eliminate Linlei; only by removing him would the others remain ignorant of the demigod’s plot against him. This game could not be dragged out any longer. If it continued, Linlei might find a chance to turn the tables; it was better to destroy him now!
The golden light shot toward him again, and Jarlen’s heart stirred.
*Whistle—whistle.*
He suddenly blew a whistle. The golden light slowed down, then veered away from him.
"Haha!"
Jarlen couldn't help but laugh. He had already learned the preferences of the Song of the Azure Sky; as long as he whistled, he could change its trajectory. How could Linlei possibly hurt him?
Yet, a moment later, Jarlen let out a cry of agony. He stared in disbelief as the Song of the Azure Sky burst out from his own chest. "How is this possible?"
"The little thing is fickle," Linlei said, reaching out to catch the Song of the Azure Sky. "But when it comes to a fight, it still listens to me."
The Song of the Azure Sky, having completed its sneak attack from behind Jarlen, trembled as if responding to Linlei’s voice. Bell stopped his assault, staring in shock as the wound on Jarlen’s chest rapidly sealed shut. "You aren't a dwarf at all!"
The Song of the Azure Sky had pierced Jarlen’s heart. A mortal would have died instantly, yet Jarlen appeared completely unharmed.
"This avatar is too clumsy," Jarlen thought. This dwarven shell was ill-suited for capturing Linlei, and there was no point in wasting it here; it would be better to swap to a different vessel. A halo of light began to shimmer around him.
"Don't even think about it!"
Linlei noticed the change in Jarlen. With a flicker, he appeared directly before him. An aura, almost tangible, surged from his hands like white mist, swirling around his fingers before shooting toward Jarlen.
"You’re courting death."
A cold glint flashed in Jarlen’s eyes; he had finally waited for the chance to trap Linlei. A terrifying aura erupted from him, reaching toward the sky. The surrounding space emitted faint cracking sounds, as if reality itself were being distorted, and Linlei’s movements stalled.
"Did you think a demigod was so weak?" Jarlen roared with laughter. "This is my avatar, but with a single thought, my true power manifests."
The power of the Wild Dream poured into Jarlen. Laughing, he raised his fist and slammed it toward Linlei. However, the fist struck a white cage and vanished into thin air without a sound.
"A cage?" Jarlen’s expression changed drastically. He felt the connection to the dream realm dissipate into smoke.
"I’m not a fool."
Linlei gradually regained his mobility. He reached out and flicked the cage of the Twin Moon Wheel. While he couldn't use the full power of the relic, the cage itself was incredibly strong. Naturally, Linlei had extorted it to keep by his side for protection.
"Stay in there for a while."
Linlei clapped his hands. He couldn't defeat Jarlen just yet, but he could certainly lock him up.
"Boys, carry him back!"
With a wave of his hand, the werewolves lifted the cage and began transporting it toward the castle.
"Brother, is he really a demigod?" Bell walked over to Linlei, curiously watching Jarlen shouting and thrashing inside the cage. "That cage of yours can actually hold a demigod?"
"Not for long," Linlei replied. The Twin Moon Wheel wasn't here, and the cage’s power was limited. He estimated that in a day or two, Jarlen would be able to break free. He would need to find other ways to deal with him.
But for now...
"Let’s ignore him. Let’s talk!"
Linlei threw an arm around Bell’s shoulder and laughed. Bell chuckled; his brother hadn't changed a bit in all these years.
"Brother, how did you end up becoming a Demon King here?" Bell asked, looking at the surrounding werewolves with confusion. "What is your relationship with them?"
"That’s a long story. Let’s go inside and talk." Linlei pulled Bell toward the castle. "Lady Ylvita, you should join us!"
"Very well." Lady Ylvita, who had been tied to the city wall, untied her own ropes and walked down. Bell stared in astonishment at the sight.
"Heave!" "Ho!"
The werewolves carried the cage into a room.
"Let me out at once!" Jarlen shouted, frantic and furious inside the cage. "Do you know who I am? I saved you! I am your master! You cannot treat me like this!"
The werewolves blinked, then turned and walked away in unison.
"What is this guy rambling about?"
"Daring to impersonate our master—he should look in a mirror first."
Their respected master was an elf, not this dwarf. Jarlen watched as the werewolves closed the door, only then realizing that using Linlei’s identity as a ruse had been a mistake that was now backfiring on him.
"I really am your master!" he screamed. "I can tell you exactly what happened that day!"
"Even if you truly were their master, it wouldn't matter," a new voice laughed from within the room. "They wouldn't listen to you."
Jarlen turned to see a large figure and a smaller one emerging from the shadows.
"I never imagined Brother could capture a demigod." Leda crouched before the cage, staring at Jarlen with curiosity. "Is this an Eternal? Uncle Fu, since he cannot resist, why not turn him into fuel for the starship?"
Alfred stood beside her, his eyes glinting with cold light. "Princess, the Eternals are the best fuel for the ship, but this cage is no simple construct..."
"It doesn't matter."
Leda reached out and pressed her hand to the floor. Countless tree roots sprouted and began to coil around the cage.
"The ship can take over the cage."
Leda smiled. Jarlen suddenly felt a wave of drowsiness wash over him, and his face turned pale. "What are you doing!"
"My dear demigod," Leda said gently to Jarlen. "Lend me your Seed of Life."
The Seed of Life was a fragment of a demigod’s soul, connected to their true essence. If she obtained it, the ship could endlessly siphon the life force of his true body.
"Don't worry, it won't hurt at all. Just go to sleep, and it will all be over."
The eyes of the girl, swathed in crimson light, flickered with joy. She had to do what she was meant to do.
