Chapter 111: They Have Stolen Our Master
The Saint Valen summit dragged on for several days.
Lin Lei soon grew bored. He wanted to wander around the city, but Lin Wen and Caesar prevented him—the assassination attempt had resulted in Lin Lei being placed under extraordinary protection. Because of the alliance meeting, strangers were strictly prohibited from entering the royal palace of Saint Valen, so no incidents occurred while Lin Lei was there.
He also received a message on his crystal from Leopard, consisting of only a simple sentence: "Do not return alone; bring some guests."
Lin Lei did not quite understand what this meant, but he decided to follow the advice. He planned to invite a human to the Night Elf Kingdom. However, before he could bring it up, Caesar approached him, hoping he would take Reinhardt along to clear his mind.
"Supreme King, the boy is too introverted. Take him to the Night Elf Kingdom to broaden his horizons." Caesar was deeply worried about Reinhardt.
"Sure," Lin Lei agreed readily. "What about his mother?"
"That..." Caesar sighed. "She is joining the war alongside your royal brother, and it was she who asked me to entrust Reinhardt to you."
"..."
Lin Lei thought to himself that it was all over; that noblewoman definitely had feelings for his royal brother. If she didn't, why would she be hanging around him? And if she didn't, why would she entrust her son to him? It was clearly a move to foster a relationship between her brother-in-law and her son. Lin Lei felt a bit troubled. Which beauty should he play matchmaker for now? The headstrong princess was a good candidate, and the noblewoman seemed fine too—should he bundle them both up and gift them to his brother?
While pondering this, he followed Caesar to find Reinhardt. However, before they could even enter Reinhardt's small courtyard, they heard curses coming from within.
"You two stray dogs! It’s not enough that you eat and drink at our expense, but your mother even has the audacity to seduce the man I fancy!"
The vicious voice was all too familiar. Lin Lei blinked; it was Vivian. The princess's temper was truly wretched, making him want to send her off to Lin Wen even more.
Lin Lei turned to look at Caesar and clearly saw his face turn crimson. In fact, one of the reasons Caesar wanted to send Reinhardt away was that his granddaughter did not get along with him, but he had never expected her to bully the boy with such venomous words.
"This girl is becoming more and more outrageous!" Caesar, furious, drew his longsword, intending to go in and teach his granddaughter a lesson.
"Your Majesty," Lin Lei quickly stopped him. "Don't punish her. Why not let her accompany me to the Night Elf Kingdom as well? I will find a way to improve their relationship."
Caesar paused, stunned. "Are you serious?"
"Of course," Lin Lei promised, patting his chest. "I will treat them both like my own... younger brother and younger sister, and I will mentor them with great enthusiasm!"
Caesar was skeptical, but his granddaughter had been spoiled by him since childhood and feared no one. Since this Supreme King had a plan, he might as well let him try.
"Very well." He nodded in agreement.
Two days later, Lin Lei prepared to depart. Caesar hosted a lavish lunch to see him off. "Supreme King, it is a rare occasion to have you visit Saint Valen, so I have prepared real delicacies for you!"
As a fellow food lover, Caesar made an exception and had the chefs prepare food even more exquisite than the banquet, which not only delighted Lin Lei but also left the other Night Elves raving about it. They left Saint Valen with a wonderful impression.
After lunch, the Night Elves set off for home. Lin Lei sat in the carriage, looking at his two guests with a smile. "Don't worry! I'm sure you will love the Night Elf Kingdom."
Reinhardt sat there with a nervous expression, having never been to the land of the elves, while Vivian looked indignant; she did not want to leave Saint Valen. Lin Lei stared at the princess, wondering how to deal with her once they returned. Reinhardt was easy to handle, but Vivian’s temperament was a different story. For now, however, he had to keep using sweet words to trick her into going; otherwise, she might just run away.
As soon as the carriage left Saint Valen, Lin Lei felt it being enveloped by a mysterious force.
"Hera!" he called out.
Hera drew her staff. "Do not worry, Your Majesty. It is just a teleportation array." She sensed that the carriage Lin Lei was riding in had been tampered with, with a special teleportation array installed underneath, but it was nothing difficult to solve. "I will dispel it immediately."
Hera raised her staff and began to chant. She was only halfway through when an odd sound interrupted her, and the spell stopped.
"What is it?" Lin Lei asked, surprised.
"Nothing." Hera raised her staff and began chanting again. "...Where the light shines, nothing is hidden... *hiccup*..."
The spell stopped again. This time, Lin Lei heard it clearly. "Hera, don't tell me—"
"No, no!" Hera waved her hands hurriedly and began chanting once more: "...Where the light shines, nothing is hidden... *hiccup*... *hiccup*..."
She let out a few more hiccups, and Lin Lei looked at her with suspicion.
"Your Majesty..." Hera touched her head. "I think I ate too much for lunch... *hiccup*..."
Lin Lei turned his head. "You disaster, I really shouldn't have counted on you."
He told his two guests to get out of the carriage, but suddenly, a powerful force surged into the teleportation array. The array lit up instantly, and with a 'whoosh,' the carriage vanished.
Hera stared blankly at the scene. "...*hiccup*... I’m done for..." She knew she was dead meat this time.
After a flash of white light, the carriage appeared thousands of miles away, then slammed into the ground with a 'boom,' creating a deep crater. Lin Lei fell onto the dirt. He looked at the dust-filled surroundings; the carriage had been unable to withstand the energy of the teleportation and had been completely pulverized. Vivian and Reinhardt, having never experienced such a long-distance teleportation, were lying to the side, dizzy and retching.
Lin Lei shook his head and was the first to crawl out of the crater.
"Master... our Master has returned!"
"Ah, Master, you’ve finally returned!"
Enthusiastic cheers rang in his ears. Lin Lei scanned ahead. A group of people he had never seen before knelt before him, hands raised in worship.
"What is going on?"
Though he didn't know what was happening, Lin Lei waved his hand. "Thank you everyone, thank you for your enthusiasm!"
These people were far too passionate, but why did they have two furry ears on top of their heads? Lin Lei pondered for a moment. "I see, you are dog-men, right?"
"These are werewolves, you idiot!" a terrified voice shrieked from behind him. Vivian grabbed him by the arm and took off running—the introverted Reinhardt had already bolted five hundred meters away.
"..." The werewolves were silent for a moment, then stood up in unison. "What are those two humans?"
"They’ve kidnapped our Master! Chase them!"
