“Do you think I would ever refuse? I’ll destroy you with the best method I have.”
The ancient voice was seething with rage, almost a growl, yet its owner did not reveal himself. Instead, he communicated with Lu Fei through a voice transmission.
“You old wretch, are you really so afraid to die? If you have any courage, come out and fight me!”
Lu Fei was frankly speechless. He activated his Samsara Heavenly Eye, scanning the surroundings to see where that old man was hiding.
Suddenly, a flying sword shot toward him from afar.
“So this is how you want to challenge me?” Lu Fei thought, unimpressed. He was least concerned about flying swords because he possessed the Secret of the “Soldier” character, which allowed him to temporarily control others’ weapons—a truly overpowered ability.
Lu Fei quickly formed a complicated hand seal, the seal of the “Soldier” secret. Once complete, he pushed forward, and the flying sword that had been aiming for him suddenly reversed course.
“How… how is this possible? My flying sword…”
The old man could not help but roar in anger.
But the sword was completely beyond his control, turning and flying straight toward him.
Lu Fei’s Samsara Heavenly Eye tracked the sword’s path.
The sword sped into the basement of a room a hundred meters away—so the old man was hiding underground after all, an unexpected discovery.
The flying sword pierced the old man’s arm with a sickening sound, making him scream in agony.
He appeared, hair white as snow, skin withered and dry, eyes cold and venomous as he glared in Lu Fei’s direction.
Lu Fei sneered, dashing toward the old man’s location as swift as the wind.
He arrived at the entrance to the room and faced the patriarch of the Wang family.
“You’ve gone too far!”
Furious beyond measure, the old man shot out from the basement, collapsing the entire building in a cloud of dust. He stood before the ruins, draped in loose black robes, glaring at Lu Fei with the decrepitude of great age.
“You brat, courting death! I don’t believe I can’t kill you!”
The sword in his hand gleamed with a ruthless edge. Gripping it single-handedly, he slashed down from the rooftop.
A white arc of sword light, vicious as a wild beast, tore through the air.
With a ringing crash, the blow split a building opposite cleanly in two, the structure giving a mournful groan as it collapsed.
But Lu Fei had long since vanished.
“Your swordsmanship is impressive, but it’s useless against me.”
In Lu Fei’s left eye, black and white taiji fish spun in a mystical dance. He easily dodged the old man’s strike, appeared at his side, and thrust his Thousand Thunder Sword, wreathed in blazing flames, toward the old man.
With a hiss, the blade shot forward, narrowly missed as the old man dodged, yet Lu Fei attacked again with another thrust.
The old man ducked and weaved, looking more and more desperate, obviously not wanting to be struck—he knew it would spell serious trouble.
But Lu Fei had lost all interest in toying with him. To avoid any accidents, he activated the Smoky Dream Ziwei Step and the “Movement” secret, gliding toward the old man like a wraith.
He stabbed.
The Thousand Thunder Sword struck the old man before he could react.
The old man’s whole body tensed in shock.
A hideous scream tore from his throat.
Lu Fei was dumbfounded—thrice over, in fact. He had never expected to stab the old man in such a humiliating spot.
What rotten luck.
He yanked the sword free.
The old man clutched his rear, howling and hopping in agony.
Lu Fei decided to end the game. Raising the Thousand Thunder Sword high, he unleashed the Divine Sword Lightning Command.
Thunderclouds gathered, and the sky roared with lightning, jolting the wounded old man back to his senses.
He hadn’t expected this youth to wield such a powerful, mysterious lightning sword technique.
Face draining of color, the old man bolted for a lightning-proof shelter.
“Heh… you can summon lightning, but I can hide in a lightning-proof room. Let’s see how you strike me now!”
The old man laughed confidently, thinking himself clever.
Lu Fei only sneered. No matter how well shielded the room was, he could direct lightning anywhere he wished, unaffected by the so-called lightning rods.
With a crash, Lu Fei slashed forward with the Thousand Thunder Sword, the destructive thunderbolts curving toward the old man.
This attack was unlike anything before. The old man’s eyes bulged in horror and his tongue clove to the roof of his mouth.
“I’m finished, I’m finished, I’m finished!”
He had never expected the youth to possess such an attack; it was beyond belief.
Furious, he tried to flee, but there was no outrunning lightning. In a flash, the electric arc struck him.
The old man’s upper body was cleaved apart, his body charred to blackened cinders by the thunder, and he collapsed.
“A fitting end,” Lu Fei murmured.
He stepped forward, took the old man’s treasures, and slipped away quietly, sparing the innocent members of the Wang family.
No one saw him kill the Wang clan’s master, patriarch, or heir.
Back home, Lu Fei took a shower and opened the old man’s pouch. Inside was a book—a set of sword techniques, the very style that had split a house in two earlier.
Not bad at all.
The old man had only mastered the first movement.
The sword style was called “Dual Severance,” a truly domineering art.
Lu Fei set to learning it at once, practicing its forms.
After a short while, he stood up and went downstairs—it was time for lunch.
He saw his father watching the news.
Breaking news: Disaster has struck the Wang family. The clan patriarch, heir, and master are all dead at home. No witnesses have identified the killer. What was once a formidable house has, in a single day, fallen to third-rate status.
No one knows who is responsible. The Li family’s experts are investigating, but there are no leads. According to one mysterious Li family master, the Wang family must have offended someone powerful to meet such a fate, but the identity of this powerful figure remains unknown.
“The world’s gone mad—things like this are happening now,” Lu Haoran said in astonishment, turning toward the dining table.
Lu Fei smiled and followed his father. Only by becoming strong could one avoid such a fate.
That’s life: if you’re not strong, you’ll be bullied and looked down upon.
Of course, if others don’t provoke me, I won’t provoke them. That’s all there is to it.
Li Lian brought out the last dish—lunch was a feast.
“Let’s eat,” she said.
“Alright.”
Lu Fei smiled, served rice for his parents, and together they enjoyed a delicious meal. Afterward, he headed outside.
The sun was shining,
but beyond the safety zone, danger lurked in the shadows. No one knew when the beasts and zombies would attack. The Li family was on full alert, and the Ji, Wang, and Ximen families were also helping resist the threat.
