Chapter 112: Are You Two Having an Affair Outside? (First Installment)
The blood inside her body began to surge wildly; Jiang Muwen’s once calm breathing gradually grew rapid and uneven. She lowered her eyes, her eyelashes trembling slightly, and her hand clenched the sleeve of her garment tighter.
“Jiang Muwen,” the boy before her finally spoke, his low and hoarse voice carrying an indescribable tenderness, as gentle as a feather brushing against her heart.
“Mm,” Jiang Muwen responded, looking at Wen Yichen. Being called by him in such a way made her even more nervous and alert.
Seeing her reaction, Wen Yichen lowered his voice again, his breath warm and soft, brushing lightly against her nose. “We…”
Just as Wen Yichen was about to continue, Bai Xu’s voice crashed in like an uninvited guest, shattering the delicate atmosphere Wen Yichen had so carefully created. “Ah, I’m so hungry!”
The sound came from the villa’s main hall. Bai Xu must have shouted loudly; otherwise, they wouldn’t have heard it here. Though the volume wasn’t particularly high, it possessed a strange power to instantly turn the intimate tension into an awkward silence that was hard to describe.
The voice reached Wen Yichen’s ears, causing his fingers to twitch involuntarily. He looked at Jiang Muwen, unsure whether to continue or not.
“Is there any food?” Yin Lize’s voice followed from behind, soft and muffled as it reached them. The boys’ casual chatter gave Wen Yichen the strange feeling that the two of them were sneaking around, about to be caught at any moment.
“We’ll look around,” Bai Xu’s voice came again, growing louder as if the boys were slowly approaching their direction.
Soon, Bai Xu’s voice came again, right next to their ears. “By the way, where’s Wen Yichen?”
Wen Yichen’s heart skipped a beat. He composed his expression, coughed awkwardly, and withdrew his hand from Jiang Muwen’s. Turning his face away, he resumed the posture he had when he first sat down. “Sorry about that just now.”
The sudden apology left Jiang Muwen momentarily stunned. Was he apologizing for trying to get close to kiss her?
“It’s nothing,” Jiang Muwen replied, though her heart still raced rapidly. The air was so still that she felt she could hear her own strong heartbeat, pounding as if it might burst from her chest.
The atmosphere grew even more awkward. Jiang Muwen raised her restless hand and tucked the hair away behind her ear.
“Let’s go inside; it’s getting late,” Wen Yichen said, rising from the floor. He turned and instinctively extended his hand toward Jiang Muwen.
He opened his palm, inviting her to take his hand and stand. Jiang Muwen stared at the large hand for a moment, her thoughts momentarily scattered. After a brief hesitation, she accepted the invitation, placing her small hand gently into Wen Yichen’s warm palm.
In the next moment, Wen Yichen clasped her hand. His palm was warm, large, and reassuring.
Before Jiang Muwen could fully react, a gentle upward force pulled her to her feet. Once she was steady, Wen Yichen released her hand.
“Get some rest early. Tomorrow, we’ll watch the sunrise together,” Wen Yichen said, a smile unconsciously tugging at the corner of his lips. The faint glow around them hid the tender expression on his face in the darkness.
“Mm.”
“Don’t forget, four-thirty in the morning,” Wen Yichen added, then stepped into the villa. After Jiang Muwen followed, he turned back to close the sliding door.
They had agreed beforehand on the time: four-thirty. As Jiang Muwen and Wen Yichen entered the bright hall, she suddenly had a fleeting thought that she might be stood up in the morning.
The boys before her resembled owls hunting at night, quietly searching for food.
“She brought several packs of instant noodles, but we can’t find them,” Yin Lize said as he crouched by the cabinet, searching carefully.
“How can we survive the night without food?” Bai Xu leaned against a nearby pillar, clearly already having eaten but still looking famished as if he hadn’t eaten in days.
“If you can’t find anything to eat, just go to bed early. Don’t forget we’re watching the sunrise tomorrow,” Wen Yichen remarked softly.
After his words fell, the other three boys’ eyes naturally shifted to Wen Yichen, then glanced at Jiang Muwen behind him.
“You two,” Bai Xu’s gaze was tinged with surprise as he looked at them, seemingly momentarily forgetting why he had come down in the first place. “On such a dark and windy night, you two…”
He deliberately dragged out the last word. Seeing the faint flush on both their faces, Bai Xu’s expression turned knowingly amused. He stepped closer to Wen Yichen, grabbing him by the arm and pulling him near. Looking at Jiang Muwen, he leaned in and whispered in a voice only they could hear, “Sneaking around outside, huh?”
Though Wen Yichen hadn’t done anything, he felt as if Bai Xu had hit the nail on the head. His ears warmed, and he instinctively bumped Bai Xu with his elbow. “You can’t expect anything decent to come out of a dog’s mouth.”
Jiang Muwen stood aside, watching the boys chat and laugh, suddenly feeling out of place. She shifted slightly and walked over to Wen Yichen. “I’m going to rest in my room first.”
Seeing her awkward departure, Bai Xu’s smile deepened. He grabbed Wen Yichen’s wrist and said, “Bring something good down if you find any,” then pulled Wen Yichen toward the basement entertainment room.
Bright lights and the background music of games intertwined, creating an atmosphere that made one feel as if they could play endlessly through the night.
Bai Xu pushed Wen Yichen down onto a nearby sofa, then picked up a game controller from the table. Pretending to dust off some nonexistent dust, he finally placed it into Wen Yichen’s hands with a teasing smile.
Wen Yichen wasn’t particularly eager to play. He held the controller loosely, looked at Bai Xu, and lazily raised an eyebrow. “Spit it out. What do you want to ask?”
Seeing Wen Yichen’s straightforwardness, Bai Xu stopped beating around the bush. Leaning closer with a mischievous grin, he asked, “How’s it going with little Wenwen?”
The nickname “little Wenwen” made Wen Yichen’s heart skip a beat. It rolled off Bai Xu’s tongue so naturally.
