Chapter 125: Are You Trying to Scald Me to Death? (Second Update)
As Wen Yichen spoke, he subconsciously shifted closer to Jiang Muwen. With his hands behind his back, he leaned down cautiously, as if about to share a secret. A moment later, four words fell softly into her ear: "I accept all comers."
A wave of warmth brushed against Jiang Muwen’s earlobe, causing her body to tremble slightly.
The professional experience program over the past two days had been grueling, leaving all the participants physically and mentally exhausted. Although Wen Yichen had swapped work positions with Jiang Muwen, a girl named Qiqi seemed quite dissatisfied with the change. For the past few days, Jiang Muwen had been the target of Qiqi's cold sarcasm, and for her, the psychological fatigue felt far heavier than the physical toll.
Wen Yichen was well aware of the grievances Jiang Muwen had suffered; he had seen every bit of it. Yet, whenever he prepared to step in and speak up for her, the senior staff member nearby would pull him back, muttering, "It's best not to meddle in other people's business," while dumping a pile of useless tasks onto him.
"What grievances could I possibly have?" Jiang Muwen muttered softly. Despite the constant snide remarks, she was optimistic by nature and usually healed quickly. "What about you? You've been lugging that camera around for days—aren't you tired?"
Wen Yichen felt a warmth spread through his heart at her question. It wasn't the first time she had shown him such concern, but every time he heard it, he felt an inexplicable joy.
"I'm not tired," Wen Yichen replied calmly.
"By the way, are your aunt and uncle on a business trip again?" Jiang Muwen asked, looking up at him with curiosity.
Wen Yichen hummed in response. He lowered his gaze to look at her. It had been a while since he had teased her, and at the thought, a wickedly charming curve tugged at the corner of his lips. He leaned down slowly and whispered into her ear, "Why? Do you want to come to my place to keep me company?"
The sentence was empty of any real implication, yet Jiang Muwen’s mind ran wild, conjuring up all sorts of scenarios—both appropriate and otherwise—until her face burned red.
Seeing her ears flush, Wen Yichen chuckled as if he had achieved his goal. "Where did your mind wander off to?"
"I wasn't thinking about anything!" Jiang Muwen stammered in a panic.
Just as Wen Yichen was about to retort, a staff member cut them off. "What are you two chatting about over there? Do you think we brought you here to socialize?"
The words caused both of them to wipe the smiles from their faces. Jiang Muwen’s heart skipped a beat, and she lowered her head obediently, like a child caught doing something wrong.
"Hey, you," Qiqi called out to Jiang Muwen, then strode over to her side. "Go get some coffee for Yuru and the others."
After giving the order, Qiqi turned to leave.
Jiang Muwen stared blankly at her, hesitant. "Sister Qiqi, what kind of coffee do they want? How many cups?" She tried to ask before Qiqi walked too far away. Qiqi hadn't specified anything other than "some coffee," and Jiang Muwen had no idea what their preferences were or how many cups to buy.
Qiqi paused, appearing to contemplate for a moment before returning to Jiang Muwen’s side. "Sister Yuru wants a mocha—remember to add sugar. As for the rest, you can choose whatever. Get ten cups."
Jiang Muwen gave a submissive "oh" and turned to head out.
"I'll go with you," Wen Yichen said, quickening his pace to follow her, but he hadn't gone far before his wrist was grabbed.
It was Qiqi. She glanced at Wen Yichen and then fixed her gaze on Jiang Muwen. "Xiao Wen, let her go alone. You stay here and help out."
Jiang Muwen turned back at the sound, only to be met with a glare from Qiqi. "Well? Go! If you're any slower, Sister Yuru is going to get angry again!"
Jiang Muwen gave a compliant nod. She lingered on Wen Yichen for a moment before slowly walking away. She couldn't shake the feeling that this errand wasn't as simple as it seemed. Whether she had watched too many dramas or there was genuine foul play, she felt there was something suspicious about the whole situation.
Regardless, she had no choice. Not knowing the area, she had to navigate and ask for directions, eventually spending several hundred yuan on ten cups of coffee. Carrying the heavy load under the scorching sun, she made her way back to the studio alone.
When she arrived, she handed the coffee to the staff, who then fawningly served the mocha to Qi Yuru.
However, after taking a single sip, Qi Yuru immediately spat it out. Her brows furrowed, pulling together so tightly they formed a deep wrinkle in the center of her forehead.
"What is this?" Qi Yuru demanded, her sharp voice dripping with blame. "And it's so scalding hot—are you trying to burn me? If you don't want me to film, just say so!"
The set fell into a deathly silence. All the staff members were terrified by the outburst, stopping their work instantly. The air grew heavy; no one dared to speak.
Jiang Muwen was stunned, standing frozen in place. She had been set up by Qiqi, just as she had feared.
Seeing that no one answered, Qi Yuru continued, "Didn't I specifically ask for no sugar in the mocha?"
"Who bought this coffee?" the manager barked. Her eyes scanned the room before locking onto Qiqi. "Didn't I tell you to go get the coffee?"
Qiqi met the manager's gaze for a fleeting second before guiltily looking away. "You did tell me. But I was busy with other tasks, so I had her go instead. I gave her specific instructions—who knew she would get it wrong?"
As she spoke, Qiqi shot a look at Jiang Muwen.
In an instant, Jiang Muwen became the target of everyone's scrutiny. She stood there, dumbfounded, her mind blank and her scalp tingling with anxiety.
"Oh my," Sister Xuan said, growing anxious as she witnessed the scene. She hurried over to Jiang Muwen and tugged on her arm, her tone tinged with reproach. "Why were you so careless? Quickly, apologize to Sister Yuru, and this will all blow over."
Jiang Muwen looked at Sister Xuan, then at Qiqi, and finally, with a sense of suffocating injustice, she looked at Qi Yuru. She hadn't done anything wrong; she had simply followed orders.
"But..." Jiang Muwen felt a welling of resentment. Qiqi had clearly told her to add the sugar.
