At Gu Niancun’s words, Sister Xuan was genuinely frightened. Sensibly, she closed her mouth and timidly shook her head.

After a brief silence, Gu Niancun spoke again in a low voice. “Take him to have his makeup done.”

The man appeared to have no unnecessary words to spare. Once he had spoken, he slipped his hands back into his trouser pockets and turned to leave the studio. The instant he disappeared from everyone’s sight, they all instinctively breathed a sigh of relief. The oppressive atmosphere seemed to dissolve in an instant, and before long, the employees began whispering among themselves.

Yin Lizhe watched Gu Niancun disappear from view, but his gaze remained fixed on the doorway. His eyes were somewhat vacant, as though he were lost in thought.

“Come over here. Time for your makeup.” A woman’s voice suddenly interrupted Yin Lizhe’s thoughts.

He abruptly came to himself, obediently murmured an acknowledgment, then turned and followed the staff member to sit nearby.

Everything was ready. Jiang Muwen obediently walked over to the camera, preparing to hoist it onto her shoulder. However, the moment her small hand grasped the equipment, it was stopped by another, much larger hand.

She instinctively followed that hand upward. A flicker of surprise passed through her eyes, mingled with what seemed to be a trace of delight.

“Wen Yichen?”

“I’ll do it.” Wen Yichen had no unnecessary words either. He took the camera from her and hoisted it onto his shoulder. His tone was calm, yet carried an authority no one dared disobey. He glanced at Jiang Muwen and continued, “Go help at my former position.”

The filming proceeded smoothly. There was no denying that Yin Lizhe seemed born for the stage. The person standing before the camera and the student sitting in the classroom seemed like two entirely different people.

Filming on the first day continued late into the night. By the time they wrapped, it was already past dinner. After tidying everything up, everyone dragged their exhausted bodies slowly toward the company entrance.

There was hardly anyone left in the company. Apart from a few employees working overtime, the building was quiet, with only the occasional figure hurrying through the corridors.

They had barely taken a few steps when Gu Niancun’s voice came from behind them. His voice was deep and not particularly loud, but in the company lobby it made all the children stop in their tracks.

“Did you just finish work?”

No one answered. They stared blankly at Gu Niancun, looking like six children who had worked themselves silly.

When he saw that they remained silent, Gu Niancun asked again, “Are you tired?”

It was merely a casual greeting, yet to these children who had worked all day, it was unbearably heartwarming. For the entire afternoon, no one had cared about them. No one had wondered whether they were tired, and no one had taken the initiative to ask if they needed a break.

Looking at their dazed expressions, Gu Niancun already knew the answer. He curved his lips into a faint smile, then walked into their midst.

“Come on. I’ll treat you all to dinner.”

Gu Niancun knew that filming was not easy. For these inexperienced children, it was nothing short of a challenge.

“The next few days will be rather grueling. Can you handle it?” he asked calmly. His tone was composed, yet concealed within that composure was a trace of cautious concern. “If you can’t—”

“Yes, we can!” Before Gu Niancun could finish, Yin Lizhe nodded repeatedly. “It’s only a week. We just have to tough it out, and then it’ll be over.”

That was what he said, but working as production assistants on set was far from easy. By the fourth day of filming, everyone had begun to feel dazed. Their initial enthusiasm had gradually been worn away, and the only thing keeping them arriving at the set every day, come rain or shine, was their sense of responsibility.

The moment Jiang Muwen and Wen Yichen arrived, they saw that the staff were already frantically busy. They had heard that a major star would be coming to film that day, so everyone had begun preparing early in the morning to welcome her.

The chime of the elevator sounded amid the bustling air, followed by a staff member’s announcement.

“Qi Yuru is here!”

Not long after those words fell, the entire set grew restless once more. The atmosphere, which had only just begun to settle, instantly became tense again.

The next second, several people emerged from the elevator, looking travel-worn. At the center was the Qi Yuru everyone had been talking about. She walked forward expressionlessly, her eyes completely concealed behind dark sunglasses. An inexplicable aura surrounded her, making people instinctively wary. On screen, she was always warm and approachable, yet the moment she entered the room, Jiang Muwen could not help feeling that she would be difficult to get along with.

Jiang Muwen stood there in a daze.

So this was the actress who had recently shot to fame. Perhaps she had expected too much of Qi Yuru. The instant she saw her in person, Jiang Muwen felt an inexplicable sense of disappointment.

Still, Jiang Muwen could never have imagined that Qi Yuru would stop right in front of her. Perhaps because Qi Yuru was wearing sunglasses, Jiang Muwen could not tell whether the celebrity was actually looking at her.

The next moment, the woman removed her sunglasses and held them out toward Jiang Muwen. Qi Yuru had beautiful eyes, but they were utterly devoid of expression. Beneath their icy chill seemed to lurk a trace of disdain.

Jiang Muwen knew none of this. She watched as Qi Yuru extended the sunglasses, but she did not take them for a long while. After a moment, Qi Yuru frowned, her gaze settling on Jiang Muwen once more. This time, it carried an unmistakable hint of reproach.

Her lips parted slightly, and she was just about to speak when a staff member beside them stopped her.

“Yuru, this girl is new and doesn’t know the rules. Don’t be angry.”

As she spoke, the staff member took the sunglasses from Qi Yuru’s hand. Only then did Qi Yuru close her mouth. She cast Jiang Muwen a glance before finding the nearest seat and sitting down.

“Be more careful next time.” Once Qi Yuru had walked away, the staff member finally scolded Jiang Muwen in a low voice. “When a famous star hands you something, she expects you to put it away for her. Did you really think she was giving it to you?”

Jiang Muwen stared blankly at the staff member. She had not even had time to apologize before the woman turned and hurried over to Qi Yuru with an ingratiating smile.

Watching her retreating back, Jiang Muwen felt wronged.

No one had ever told her about these rules. How was she supposed to know?

“Are you all right?”

Jiang Muwen was still stewing in resentment when Wen Yichen’s voice came from beside her. He was not speaking loudly, yet his voice still made her heart tremble. She raised her head and looked at him. The grievance in her heart seemed to grow even heavier. Lowering her eyes, she obediently shook her head.

“They’re just like that. Don’t take it to heart.” Wen Yichen gently consoled her. Then, in the next instant, he raised a hand and affectionately ruffled her hair. “They say Qi Yuru is difficult to get along with. If you ever feel wronged, you can come and tell me.”
