Chapter 119: He Is Just as Adorable as You (Second Update)
“Even though Gu Nianxi knew that Yin Yize was lying, she couldn’t help but laugh as she listened.”
It had to be said, spending time with Yin Yize revealed that his personality was completely different from his appearance. He was actually quite an adorable young man, with a little boy living quietly in his heart.
“By the way,” Yin Yize suddenly seemed to remember something. He lifted his head slightly, lowered his hand from supporting his chin, then leaned comfortably against the cabinet. After adjusting his expression, a hint of curiosity flickered in his eyes as he cautiously asked, “May I be so bold as to ask you something?”
“Hmm?” Gu Nianxi looked at him with curiosity, scooping noodles from the pot into a bowl and skillfully drizzling the soup over them.
“What were you just thinking about?” Yin Yize looked at her earnestly, clearly eager to know.
“I...” The question made Gu Nianxi’s heart flutter unexpectedly. She hesitated, unsure how to share this with him. A fleeting, indescribable emotion crossed her eyes. She absentmindedly steadied the bowl, only to burn her fingers moments later. Realizing it, she quickly pulled her hand back, gasping sharply.
Just as she raised her hand to touch her earlobe, a large hand grasped it firmly. The warmth from his palm made her momentarily dizzy. She instinctively tried to pull her hand away but found it held tighter.
“Don’t move,” Yin Yize whispered, his brows slightly furrowed. Though it was such an ordinary phrase, to Gu Nianxi it sounded like an unbreakable command. She looked at him obediently and stood still.
What started as a slight burn unexpectedly turned into him blowing gently on her fingers. Puffing out his cheeks, he blew twice, then carefully stroked her scorched fingertips. Gu Nianxi looked at Yin Yize, and for a moment, she suspected that he wasn’t just blowing on her fingers—he seemed to be trying to find an excuse to touch her again.
“I’m actually fine; it just burned a little. It doesn’t hurt anymore,” Gu Nianxi said sheepishly, her ears tinged with pink.
“...”
Maybe it was because he cared for her too much. Hearing her say this, Yin Yize smiled awkwardly but showed no intention of letting go of her hand. Only when he sensed her trying to withdraw it did he slowly release his grip.
---
“I was just thinking that you remind me of a childhood friend,” Gu Nianxi said as she pulled her hand back, a faint smile spontaneously blooming on her face.
That boy from her childhood was just like this—every little thing she did somehow became a big deal in his eyes. He always followed her closely, asking this and that: “Are you okay now?” “Are you really fine?” Looking back, his clingy nature was nothing short of a sweet little puppy.
“Oh?” Yin Yize glanced at her curiously, then placed the bowl of noodles on the table. After grabbing two pairs of chopsticks, he returned to the seat he’d chosen earlier.
“Was your childhood friend as handsome as me?” Yin Yize shamelessly asked, offering her one of the chopsticks.
“I’m not eating,” Gu Nianxi refused to take it.
“How can you not eat the noodles you cooked yourself?” Yin Yize insisted, gently pressing the chopsticks into her hand.
“He was as cute as you,” Gu Nianxi said frankly, gripping the chopsticks as she looked at the boy beneath the warm yellow light. They really were very similar.
Yin Yize was rarely called cute, let alone by Gu Nianxi. Just as he was about to take a bite, her words flushed his cheeks crimson.
Seeing him silent, Gu Nianxi continued, perhaps because the night made it easier to open up. She willingly shared memories long hidden deep in her mind: “He was very caring and shy. Though he looked like a little tyrant, he was actually very clingy.”
“That adorable?” Yin Yize echoed, listening intently as if he were an audience, occasionally taking a few noodles himself.
“Do you still keep in touch with that friend now?” Yin Yize asked curiously.
“No,” Gu Nianxi’s eyes dimmed slightly. “He moved away, I moved away. As we grew up, we lost contact.”
For them, growing up was like a slow farewell, leaving only a vague memory.
But since meeting Yin Yize and spending so much time with him, she felt a strangely familiar and tender warmth. She couldn’t explain why, but being with him made her genuinely happy. That happiness came not only from affection but also from a feeling of rediscovery—as if the long-slumbering joy of childhood was slowly awakening within her, stirred gently by this boy.
Suddenly, the slam of a door snapped Gu Nianxi’s thoughts back. Her gaze passed over Jiang Muwen and Wen Yichen before settling on the man who had just emerged from the room: Gu Nian Cun.
“What are you standing there for?” Gu Nian Cun asked puzzled. He glanced at the three people before him, stepped forward a little, then turned to head downstairs. Without waiting for an answer, he changed the subject. The three seemed to be deep in discussion, something that didn’t interest him much. “I ordered some ingredients. We’re having barbecue for lunch.”
After saying this, Gu Nian Cun paused mid-step. With his mouth slightly open, he glanced back at Jiang Muwen as if suddenly remembering something. “You can eat barbecue, right?”
Gu Nian Cun seemed still wary after last night’s seafood dinner. Before heading downstairs, he made sure to ask.
His gaze lingered on Jiang Muwen, and beneath his usually cold eyes was a rare warmth and concern.
Unfortunately, Gu Nian Cun’s imposing presence made Jiang Muwen nervous after just a brief look. “I can eat it,” she replied.
Hearing this, Gu Nian Cun relaxed and smiled slightly. The corners of his mouth rose in a faint curve. If Jiang Muwen couldn’t even eat barbecue, Gu Nian Cun might truly start wondering if she survived only on dew.
