Chapter 126: Why Apologize When You Did Nothing Wrong? (Part One)

Though the words were on the tip of her tongue, Jiang Muwen forced them down. If she said them now, few would believe her, and she might even be accused of shirking responsibility.
“But what is it?” Sister Xuan grew anxious when Jiang Muwen still didn’t apologize. Qi Yuru was furious at the moment; if they didn’t soothe her properly, things would be doomed.
“Sister Qiqi said it should be with sugar.” Before Jiang Muwen could explain, Wen Yichen couldn’t help but speak up.
He simply couldn’t stand to see a girl being bullied in front of everyone, especially when that girl was the one he cared for most.
Wen Yichen spoke without emotion, his tone cold yet resolute.
“I didn’t say that. I said no sugar.” Qiqi firmly stood her ground, furrowing her brows, looking as if she had been grievously wronged. Her face was just missing a few tears.
At that moment, no one wanted to admit fault. Each held their own view, and the blame for ordering the wrong coffee seemed like a hot potato, tossed from one person to another.
“Whether or not, just apologize and it’s done. This is our fault,” Sister Xuan interrupted as the situation worsened, tugging hard at Jiang Muwen. “Why aren’t you apologizing to Sister Yuru?”
Under Sister Xuan’s pressure, Jiang Muwen’s sense of grievance deepened. Her eyes fell on Sister Xuan, a complex expression flashing through them. After a moment, she looked away disappointedly and fixed her gaze back on Qi Yuru. With her mouth slightly open, she finally chose to yield.
“If I didn’t do anything wrong, why should I apologize?” Jiang Muwen was about to speak when Wen Yichen stopped her. The young man was too impulsive. As soon as he spoke, all eyes turned to him.
Sister Xuan’s mouth twitched slightly. “Wen Yichen…”
“He’s right.” Before Sister Xuan could finish, a male voice behind her cut in sharply.
It was steady and firm, sending a shiver through the listeners.
Everyone’s attention focused on these few people, so no one noticed Gu Niancun appearing behind Jiang Muwen and the others.
No one knew when Gu Niancun had arrived or what he had overheard.
The air fell into a heavy silence again, the atmosphere growing tense. At this moment, no one dared utter another word.

No one would have guessed that this usually icy, unapproachable CEO would speak up for a few inexperienced youngsters at a time like this.
“If you didn’t do anything wrong, why apologize?” Gu Niancun said leisurely, his large hand calmly resting in his pocket. His deep eyes were inscrutable. “Since it was the wrong order, just buy a new one.”
“Gu, you’re right,” Sister Xuan lowered her head, looking like a soldier whose spirit had been broken.
After a pause, Gu Niancun continued softly, “Who was supposed to buy the coffee in the first place?”
The room fell silent again. Jiang Muwen expected Qiqi to stand up, but Qiqi began to back down instead.
“No one admits it,” Gu Niancun raised an eyebrow. “Alright, if you want to hide it, just hide it well—don’t let me find out.”
After speaking, Gu Niancun turned away. “Chen Xuan, go buy a few more cups to make up for them.”
Shortly after, he added, “Go yourself.”
“By the way,” as Gu Niancun left, he suddenly seemed to remember something. He turned his head and glanced at Jiang Muwen. “Jiang Muwen, come with me.”
And so, under everyone’s watchful eyes, Gu Niancun took Jiang Muwen away. No one knew why or what purpose Gu Niancun had for summoning her.
He walked quickly, forcing Jiang Muwen to jog to keep up. He remained silent all the way, and she quietly followed him to the office door. As Gu Niancun pushed open the door and stepped inside, Jiang Muwen hesitated briefly outside.
Gu Niancun glanced back at her, then looked away. “What are you standing there for? Come in.”
Jiang Muwen obediently gave a soft “oh,” carefully stepped inside, and thoughtfully closed the door behind him.
This was likely her first time entering the CEO’s office. The vast space, the black-white-gray decor, and the sharp chill in the air made her shiver.
Gu Niancun didn’t go to his desk but instead walked over to the standing air conditioner. After pressing a couple of buttons with his long fingers, he raised the temperature. Sitting back down, he looked up and saw Jiang Muwen still standing awkwardly.
He couldn’t help but say, “Just sit wherever.”

At that, Jiang Muwen timidly moved two steps toward the sofa. It was leather, and she wore shorts. As soon as she sat down, the cold feel of the leather made her shiver involuntarily.
She looked at Gu Niancun and finally ventured, “Gu… Gu Niancun, did you call me here for something?”
“Gu Niancun.”
Calling him “Gu Niancun” made their relationship suddenly feel distant again. As soon as the words fell, Gu Niancun’s fingers holding the documents trembled slightly. His thin lips parted, hesitated, then said, “You don’t have to call me ‘Gu Niancun.’”
“Then…” Jiang Muwen looked at him in confusion. “If not ‘Gu Niancun’ at the company, then what?”
“Just like before,” Gu Niancun said calmly, leaving his thoughts unreadable.
He seemed to like hearing Jiang Muwen call him “Brother.” It made the distance between them feel smaller.
Seeing Jiang Muwen silent, he deliberately cleared his throat. “I called you here because I want to ask if you want to come help me out for the next few days.”
Help Gu Niancun out?
Jiang Muwen stared at him in surprise, stunned.
She’d heard correctly but couldn’t quite believe Gu Niancun would ask such a thing.
Gu Niancun had seen how the staff had treated Jiang Muwen today. Unlike Wen Yichen, who had impulsively intervened, Gu Niancun had no choice but to make this offer.
But all this was something Gu Niancun would never tell Jiang Muwen directly. “Jan has taken three days off, so the assistant’s position is vacant. Do you want to fill in for a while?”
