Chapter 156: Your Headband Is Glowing (First Publisher's Edition)
Soft lips brushed against Jiang Muwen's cheek like a dragonfly skimming the water, causing her entire body to freeze instantly.
The air seemed to congeal at that very moment; neither of them had expected such a thing to happen. With their eyes locked, a trace of panic washed over both of their gazes.
Struck by Wen Yichen's kiss, Jiang Muwen was momentarily rendered completely speechless. The little deer in her heart began to thump wildly, as if it might burst right out of her chest the next second. A faint blush slowly spread across her delicate face, and as she looked at Wen Yichen before her, she actually felt as though she were about to float away.
The surrounding crowd remained noisy and boisterous. Finally, as if snapping out of his daze, Wen Yichen abruptly withdrew his vacant stare. After composing his expression, he released her hand and re-established some distance between them. "I'm sorry."
With a blushing face and seemingly still unable to process what had happened, Jiang Muwen blankly shook her head. "It's fine."
She spoke extremely softly, like the buzz of a mosquito. Before she could even finish, Wen Yichen once again took hold of her wrist. Even through the thin fabric of her clothes, Jiang Muwen could still feel the warmth radiating from his palm.
The two of them walked all the way to the concert venue in silence.
For the half-hour or so before the show started, neither of them spoke a single word. That inadvertent kiss seemed to linger on both of their minds.
Jiang Muwen sat obediently beside Wen Yichen. With no interaction between them, they appeared rather out of place compared to the bustling, noisy crowd all around. The two of them seemed to have formed a tiny bubble of their own, endlessly radiating a subtle and unique aura.
How long this silence lasted, she had no idea. Finally, just as all the lights went out, Jiang Muwen broke the quiet. "Is the concert about to start?"
Darkness enveloped the surroundings, with only the murmurs of whispering fans reaching their ears.
Suddenly, a burst of compressed air hissed into their eardrums, and in the next second, the surrounding chatter quieted down entirely.
The arena fell into absolute stillness, everyone apparently holding their breath in anticipation of their idols' entrance. The stage lights slowly came on, and the rising platform ascended at the same time. Mellow music began to play, and the massive screen at the back of the stage gradually lit up. Before the idols even rose onto the stage, a loud, piercing female voice suddenly rang out from behind them:
"Han Mucheng, I love you!"
An abrupt sound sliced through the air, causing Jiang Muwen to involuntarily shudder. Subconsciously turning her head, she unexpectedly caught sight of a faint red glowing arrow atop Wen Yichen's head.
This arrow headband was actually luminous!
At this sight of Wen Yichen, Jiang Muwen couldn't help but chuckle softly. "Wen Yichen, the headband on your head is glowing."
As her voice trailed off, Wen Yichen's gaze shifted onto Jiang Muwen. In the dim lighting, the boy's eyes were clear, and the soft glow blended into a kaleidoscope of light and shadow within them. At that moment, it looked as though stars were hidden in his eyes. "You're no different."
The boy countered with a question. Having said that, he raised his hand, intending to take off the headband. However, the moment he lifted his arm, his wrist was caught by Jiang Muwen. "Don't! It's rare for us to be sitting this close. With the headband on, the guys will notice us!"
Wen Yichen looked at Jiang Muwen, his mouth slightly open, as if he wanted to say something, but he forcefully swallowed the words back down. The next second, he gloomily turned his head away and cast his gaze toward the stage.
He didn't really understand these girls' little thoughts. Not only did he not understand, but a strange feeling had unexpectedly welled up inside him. It couldn't really be called jealousy, but it just felt a little uncomfortable in his chest. Probably because he liked her so much that he constantly worried someone else would snatch her away.
Perhaps because the two red arrows were far too conspicuous, coupled with the fact that they were sitting in the front row, Jiang Muwen kept feeling as though the idols were glancing over in their direction from time to time.
"Wen Yichen," Jiang Muwen murmured, watching the idols on stage while nudging Wen Yichen's arm with her elbow, "is Han Mucheng looking over at me the whole time?"
Hearing this, Wen Yichen's gaze naturally fell upon Jiang Muwen. Before he even had a chance to speak, he watched as the girl beside him raised her hand and made a giant heart shape toward the idols on stage.
In all the years Wen Yichen had known her, he didn't think he had ever seen this girl make a heart gesture toward him. Whatever, she was just making a heart sign at an idol, no big deal. With that thought, Wen Yichen shifted his gaze back to the stage. Unexpectedly, the scene that greeted his eyes the next second gave him a genuine shock.
On stage, Han Mucheng raised his hand and formed a large heart in response—directing it toward their area, or more precisely, directly toward Jiang Muwen.
The action lasted only a few seconds, yet it left Wen Yichen completely dumbfounded. He stared at the idol on stage, his expression nothing short of spectacular.
After singing a few songs, Han Mucheng took the microphone and began chatting with the fans. Although it was just casual small talk like "Have you eaten dinner yet?", Jiang Muwen responded with unusual enthusiasm.
"Will you continue to walk alongside us for the next five, ten years?" In the quiet air, Han Mucheng asked gently from the stage.
"Yes!" Jiang Muwen cupped her hands around her mouth and shouted back. The next second, her voice blended seamlessly with the voices of everyone else, uniform and resounding.
As the noise subsided, another piercing voice pierced through the brief quiet: "Han Mucheng, I love you!"
The voice seemed to come from afar. Reaching Han Mucheng's ears, it coaxed a spontaneous smile from him. "I love you too."
As soon as he finished speaking, the venue erupted with the shrill screams of young girls.
When the screaming gradually died down, Han Mucheng spoke up once more. "Speaking of love, it suddenly reminds me of the next song we're going to perform. Before we sing it, there's something I want to tell everyone—"
Han Mucheng paused for a moment, his gaze slowly sweeping across the entire arena. Before long, he resumed in a leisurely tone, "I wonder who you came with to our concert today. Back before I debuted, I always dreamed of bringing the girl I liked to a concert of my favorite singer. Years have passed, and I've debuted, but I still haven't had that chance. So—"
"If the person right beside you happens to be someone you like, then I think that's truly a very happy thing."
As Han Mucheng finished speaking, Wen Yichen's gaze involuntarily drifted toward Jiang Muwen. The girl was staring fixedly at the idol on the stage, seeming completely unaware of the burning gaze beside her.
