Chapter 133: Your Dog Is Starving to Death (Second Update)
After Wen Yichen finished speaking, Jiang Muwen gave a docile "oh" in response. She then carefully applied the medicated patch to his shoulder, gently smoothing it over with a thoughtful touch as if to ensure it was perfectly set.
"All done," she whispered, her earlobes tinged with a faint blush.
She sat there, waiting for him to speak, but Wen Yichen did not say what she had expected. The air fell into a silence so profound it made Jiang Muwen feel a little awkward. She watched him for a moment and decided to broach a new topic.
"Wen Yichen."
"Jiang Muwen."
They spoke in unison. Once the words left their lips, silence reclaimed the room. Wen Yichen had never imagined that just as he had finally gathered his thoughts to confess, Jiang Muwen would chime in with such perfect synchronization.
"You go first," he said calmly. He figured he would confess eventually; there was no rush.
"Did you know? An Xiaoxiao was kicked out of Class A."
"..." Wen Yichen turned back, bewildered. He reached for a short-sleeved shirt nearby and slowly pulled it over his head, preparing to listen while he got dressed.
"She was dating that guy, Da Wu, from our class, wasn't she? I heard her grades plummeted because of the relationship. She didn't do well on the finals, and now she’s out of Class A." As she spoke, she kindly reached out to help straighten the hem of his shirt.
"..." Her words sent a heavy tremor through his heart. Dating led to a drop in grades and eventual expulsion from Class A?
Seeing him pause, Jiang Muwen didn't think much of it, assuming he was simply shocked by the news. "Hard to imagine, right? An Xiaoxiao’s grades were actually pretty good. Now look at her—she worked so hard to get into Class A, only to be kicked out."
Wen Yichen truly hadn't expected her to say something so alarming right when he was about to confess. What if he and Jiang Muwen started dating and she became the second An Xiaoxiao? He dared not think further; given her personality, she would surely end up crying her eyes out.
Yet, despite her unsettling him, he still wanted to know: if it were her, what would she do? "What about you?"
"Hmm?" Jiang Muwen lowered her hands, looking at him in confusion, seemingly unable to grasp what he was asking.
Wen Yichen tilted his head slightly, observing her from the corner of his eye before turning back. "If you were dating someone, what would you do?"
"Me?" The sudden question caught her off guard. If she were dating someone... she would probably pour her heart and soul into the relationship.
Seeing her hesitant response, Wen Yichen felt he had his answer. Moreover, he could hardly guarantee that he wouldn't distract her from her studies. Above all else, he was deeply concerned about her academic performance.
"It's nothing, just asking. The most important thing for you right now is to focus on your studies." His thin lips parted as he spoke. He rose leisurely, pulled open his desk drawer, and tossed a bag of snacks to her. "Eat something. I just ordered takeout."
The snack arched through the air and landed in her lap. She picked it up, looking at him curiously. "By the way, you said you had something to tell me earlier. What was it?"
Wen Yichen looked at her, stunned for a few seconds, before walking over to the bed and sitting down. It seemed that what he had wanted to say could no longer be spoken. "My brother is taking me to Russia in two weeks. Is there anything you want as a gift? I’ll bring it back for you."
Russia? As she looked at him, her first thought wasn't of a gift, but of how long he would be gone. "How long will you be away?"
"About two weeks, I suppose," he replied with a slight shrug. The next second, he shifted his gaze back to her. "So, what gift do you want?"
Jiang Muwen looked at the boy before her. His eyes were clear and bright, so handsome that she couldn't help but linger on the sight. "Russian nesting dolls."
A smile tugged at the corners of his mouth—a faint, indulgent expression. He knew it; he knew she would ask for nesting dolls. "Alright, I'll pick out a nice one for you."
Having her constant companion suddenly gone for so long felt strange to her. Although Wen Yichen shared photos of his travels almost daily, the person appearing most often in them was Wen Yixin—his head would pop into the frame when Wen Yichen was photographing scenery, or a hand would intrude when he was capturing food.
As for pictures of Wen Yichen, they were almost all sent by Wen Yixin, and they were all candid shots—either blurred or obscured by his hand.
For nearly two weeks, there was no playful interaction between the two, and the "A Green Plum" Weibo account remained silent.
In the dead of night, Jiang Muwen lay in bed, habitually opening Weibo, when she unexpectedly received a direct message.
*Nan Nan Who Struggles:* "Master Green Plum, your dog is about to starve to death."
Jiang Muwen looked at the comment, bewildered. After pondering for a long time, she hesitantly replied, "I don't have a dog, do I?"
*Nan Nan Who Struggles:* "You haven't posted any 'dog food' [public displays of affection] for days. *sob*"
Only then did it click. She chuckled at the screen. "I'll update in a couple of days, hahaha."
Shortly after she replied, her phone vibrated. A notification popped up: a message from Wen Yichen. It felt like an invisible hand gently knocking on her heart, instantly lifting her spirits. With a surge of joy, she tapped the message.
*Wen Yichen:* "Are you asleep?"
*Jiang Muwen:* "About to."
It was past midnight for Jiang Muwen, but in Moscow, Wen Yichen should have just finished dinner.
*Wen Yichen:* "I'll be back the day after tomorrow."
The moment the words appeared, she felt a jolt of surprise, followed by a rush of happiness. "Wow! What time is the flight? Do you want me to pick you up?"
*Wen Yichen:* "Arriving in A-City around 8:30 PM."
Their messages crossed paths. Soon after, Wen Yichen sent another: "You want to come pick me up?"
