Chapter 52: Do You Know That Some People Die From Talking Too Much?
Ye Wuqi looked a little surprised. “Is the principal really that protective of me?”
Ye Luo was silent. You’re calling him “Principal Bro” and you still need to ask?
Yan Baba gave Ye Wuqi a playful shove and grinned. “Wuqi, quit pretending! If you keep it up, Luo might turn around and leave again!”
At last, Ye Wuqi turned to her with a smile. “That’s a secret. I can’t tell you.”
Lei Xingxing, afraid she wouldn’t believe them, immediately nodded in agreement. “Luo, it really is a secret. Wuqi hasn’t even told Baba or me. We’re all wondering why the principal protects him so much, but he just won’t say a word. There’s nothing we can do.”
Yan Baba, still grinning, added, “We even suspected for a while that Wuqi was the principal’s illegitimate son. Hahaha…”
“Get lost!” Ye Wuqi lifted his foot, pretending to kick him in jest. “I grew up in an orphanage. The orphanage is my family. If you call me anyone’s illegitimate child again, I’ll tear you apart!”
Yan Baba dodged away, laughing. “But that’s just it. You’re an orphan, and yet the principal protects you like this. How could we not suspect?”
He turned to her again. “Luo, let me tell you, don’t let the fact that Wuqi’s an orphan fool you—he seems to have some kind of scary background. He’s been running wild at No. 7 High for years, and nobody dares lay a finger on him.”
Ye Luo’s brow furrowed almost imperceptibly.
So the ancestor had a mysterious background at this point? Why was there no record of it in the family history?
She remembered the records describing the ancestor as upright and honest, but the person she saw was nothing like that. The more she thought about it, the more she realized the family history couldn’t be completely trusted.
Especially the praise for his character. She used to believe every word; now she was sure it had all been glossed over—if not entirely, then at least to some degree!
Yan Baba was still chattering away. “Take that Gong Ran, for example. At first, we were all a bit scared of her—after all, she’s the heiress of the top family, and her brother is Gong Lü, infamous as the living King of Hell. He practically runs S City with an iron fist—who would dare cross them? But Wuqi isn’t afraid. He’s always going head-to-head with her. And since nothing ever happens to him after these confrontations, we just follow his lead and oppose her too.”
Ye Luo found it all the more baffling.
Meanwhile, Ye Wuqi seized Yan Baba by the neck and gave him a rough shake, joking, “Baba, don’t you know some people die because they talk too much? You really can’t shut up!”
Yan Baba was a character in his own right. Though Ye Wuqi’s grip was hardly tight, and he could breathe perfectly well, he exaggerated, rolling his eyes theatrically and pretending to suffocate, clawing at Wuqi’s hands and cursing, “Wuqi, if you don’t let go, I really am going to talk myself to death!”
Ye Luo was speechless.
Ye Wuqi nearly doubled over laughing.
Lei Xingxing was wiping tears from his eyes.
Their laughter and playful banter echoed all the way to the classroom, with Ye Luo simply trailing behind, quietly observing and saying nothing.
That long banner hanging outside the classroom filled her with embarrassment; she didn’t spare it a single glance, heading straight inside.
She walked to her desk.
Yan Baba called after her, grinning, “Hey, Luo, now that you know Wuqi is the boss around here, I’m not afraid to tell you—he never let anyone sit behind him before. The seat you’re in now used to be his too. He’d hog two desks for himself, tossing his jacket and bag on that one. Ever since you started sitting there, he’s been dumping his stuff on Zhaoyu’s desk instead.”
