Chapter 54: Isn’t It Obvious?
Ye Wuqi found it even more amusing. He stopped slouching and shaking his leg, turned around fully to face her, and asked, “Are you trying to make me study properly?”
“Isn’t it obvious?” Ye Luo replied.
“Hahaha…” Ye Wuqi burst out laughing.
Yan Baba was equally amused, but instead of coming over, he simply called out from his seat, laughing loudly, “Sister Luo, you might as well give up. If you really have the energy to help someone raise their grades by a point or two, it’d be better spent letting Brother Qi have a good sleep. Don’t get your hopes up—no one in our class is getting into college.”
After a moment, Yan Baba sighed and continued, “To tell you the truth, the moment everyone in our class got assigned here, we all gave up on the idea of going to college.”
Ye Luo paid no mind to what Yan Baba said, her gaze fixed on Ye Wuqi as she repeated, “What will it take for you to start studying seriously?”
“You’re so stubborn…” Ye Wuqi was exasperated and amused. “Whether I study or not, what’s it got to do with you? Why do you care so much? And while we’re at it, answer me this: why are you so nice to me?”
Ye Luo stayed silent.
“There you go again!” Ye Wuqi looked helpless. “Who taught you to be like this? Fine, fine. Since you’re doing it for my sake, I’ll make a concession. If you can get first place in the next monthly exam, I promise I’ll study hard. How about that?”
Before Ye Luo could reply, Yan Baba burst out laughing, “Hahaha, Brother Qi, you call that a concession? That’s even less likely than getting into college!”
Lei Xingxing, sitting at his own desk reading, couldn’t help but turn around and say with a goofy smile, “Sister Luo, just let Brother Qi be. He’s obviously messing with you. There’s no way you’ll come first. Even Chen Chen, who’s so smart, has never come first. The top spot is always that study genius, Shen.”
But Ye Luo asked again, “So if I really come first, you’ll study hard?”
Ye Wuqi, still unable to contain his laughter, replied, “I was only teasing you at first, but seeing how serious you are… Alright, I always keep my word. If you really get first place, I’ll study properly.”
“Deal!” Ye Luo said at once.
“Hahaha…” Ye Wuqi couldn’t take it anymore and collapsed onto her desk, laughing. “You academic slacker, trying to make me die of laughter so you can inherit my six points? With your score of one hundred and thirty? There’s no way you’ll get first place, you fool!”
Ye Luo replied, “We’ve already agreed—if I get first place, you’ll study hard.”
“Alright, alright,” Ye Wuqi nodded quickly, clutching his aching stomach from laughing so hard. It was clear he didn’t believe she could do it.
Ye Luo said nothing more.
Yan Baba, also clutching his stomach, groaned from laughing and said, “Brother Qi, Sister Luo is really giving it her all to get you to study. What is it about you that she likes so much? Yesterday, she even gave you all that money… I can’t have this. To soothe my jealous soul, you’ve got to treat us to braised pork today!”
“Can’t do it. I’m out of money,” Ye Wuqi spread his hands.
“What the—! Where’s your two hundred grand?!” Yan Baba’s eyes widened.
“I put it in the bank. It’s been there for years. The interest will be pretty good.”
“Why’d you do that?”
“It’s my marriage fund—for when I get married!”
“Get lost…”
Ignoring their banter, Ye Luo took out two sheets of paper and handwrote two copies of their agreement, making Ye Wuqi sign and press his fingerprint. She wasn’t about to let him go back on his word.
Ye Wuqi thought to himself, “Why does it feel like I just set a trap for myself?”
