Gong Lu said only one thing: “Cancel everything on this afternoon’s schedule.”

“Why cancel it?” Song Linfeng could not make sense of it at all. Wasn’t it just that He Luo had changed her name to Ye Luo? Did he really need to react this strongly?

Just then, the car had already pulled over at the curb.

“Get out.” Gong Lu gave no answer. As he stepped out of the car, he motioned for Song Linfeng and the driver to get out as well.

On either side of the Maybach, front and rear, were two black luxury cars, each carrying bodyguards in black suits. They too had pulled over to the roadside.

Gong Lu did not allow anyone to follow him. The moment the driver and Song Linfeng got out, he slid into the driver’s seat, turned the Maybach around, and drove toward the household registration office.

...

As Ye Luo came out of the registration hall, before she had even stepped down the stairs, she spotted a black Maybach parked by the roadside. Gong Lu was leaning against it in his usual languid, boneless pose, arms folded.

A black shirt, a perfectly tailored white suit.

She had seen Gong Lu at school that morning, but he had not been dressed like this then. That morning he had worn a red shirt and a black suit.

But no matter what he wore, she truly did not care.

Only because her memory was good enough to remember clearly.

The moment Gong Lu saw her, he smiled.

It was obvious he had been waiting for her, signaling for her to come over.

Ye Luo frowned almost imperceptibly. How did he know she was here? She had taken a taxi; even Uncle Tan did not know she was here. So who told him? Or had he already become so all-powerful that he could know wherever she went?

When she walked over, Ye Luo said nothing, merely staring at him expressionlessly.

Gong Lu gave a low chuckle before saying, “I heard you changed your name.”

“Yes.”

“Changed it to what?”

“Ye Luo.”

Gong Lu laughed softly again.

Ye Luo frowned. He still looked exactly the same as always, wicked and alluring, with nothing different about him at all, yet she could feel that he was in a very good mood.

For reasons she could not understand.

Still lounging against the car as though he had no bones in his body, Gong Lu lifted a hand to brush back the hair at his forehead before saying, “Remember what I told you a few days ago? That one day, you would tell me yourself who you really are.”

After a pause, he looked up at her again, his smile carrying a deeply meaningful edge. “Now you have told me.”

Ye Luo frowned even more.

Gong Lu finally pushed himself away from the car. Straightening, he bent toward her and leaned down beside her ear.

After another low chuckle against her ear, his thin, cool lips parted, and he spoke in a voice so quiet that only she could hear: “Luo Luo, welcome to 2019.”

Ye Luo shoved him away at once, staring at his face in disbelief. What did he mean by that? Did he know she was not from this era at all?

Caught off guard by the push, Gong Lu staggered back a step. Once he steadied himself, he returned to his boneless stance, arms folded against the car, looking back at her with a slight upward curve of his lips.

Perhaps because of his devilishly handsome face, even that smile seemed laced with a wicked charm.

With another soft laugh, Gong Lu continued, more directly this time. “The person I like is called Ye Luo. She is the one who will hold power over the Ye family, the greatest clan, three hundred years from now.”

Ye Luo’s mind shook violently. Startled, she immediately pressed, “How do you know that? Could you be—”

Before she could finish, he answered, “No, I am not. I am simply a person of this era, but I know you.”

“Then how do you know me? And know me so well?”

“That,” he said, “I cannot tell you.”

If he could tell her, he certainly would. But that, he truly could not say.
