"You..."

If the wound on his wrist wasn't treated soon, he would surely bleed to death. Yet as Ye Luo uttered just one word, she fell silent upon noticing a first aid kit nearby.

Well, he had a first aid kit and still chose not to use it—clearly, he was courting death.

Since that was the case, she saw no reason to stop him.

Ye Luo turned to leave, but suddenly her hand was seized. Looking down, she realized it was Gong Lu who had caught her, his blood-stained hand gripping hers, smearing her with fresh blood.

Ye Luo frowned.

Her gaze lifted to his face, searching for his intentions, when Gong Lu, cold and expressionless, spat out two words: "Treat it."

He was making it clear he wanted her to tend to his wound.

Ye Luo's frown deepened. How dare this man command her!

But considering she ate his food, drank his water, and lived under his roof, she was, in the end, indebted to him. Even though anger simmered within her, she didn't shake off his hand and walk away. Instead, she crouched down, opened the first aid kit, and tended to his wrist with practiced efficiency.

Fueled by irritation, she made no attempt to be gentle. She expected him to cry out in pain, but to her surprise, he sat there like a man devoid of all sensation, not flinching in the slightest.

He remained as cold and detached as ever.

Once his wound was bandaged—enough to keep him from bleeding to death—Ye Luo finally asked, "Are there any other injuries that need attention?"

Gong Lu remained silent, not even sparing her a glance, his eyes brooding and dark, lost in thoughts she could not decipher.

Ye Luo had no patience for his silence. She'd asked, and if he chose not to answer, that was his problem.

Without another word, Ye Luo stood up and walked out.

This time, Gong Lu didn't try to stop her.

But just as she set one foot outside his room, Gong Lu suddenly spoke: "How can you see in the dark?"

Ye Luo froze instantly.

She had just efficiently dressed his gruesome wound in a room with the lights off, making it obvious she could see perfectly well in the dark.

But so what if he figured that out?

With that thought, Ye Luo continued on her way, not once looking back as she returned to her room.

As soon as she was inside, she locked the door, then went straight to the bathroom to wash the blood from her hands.

She had no idea how Gong Lu had ended up so badly hurt, nor did she care.

Emerging from the bathroom, Ye Luo sat back down at her computer and resumed her rapid typing, working on her software code.

She needed to finish her translation program as soon as possible to earn some money.

She was short on cash—and so was her ancestor.

It truly was as the saying went: money isn't everything, but without it, nothing is possible.

She worked until three in the morning before finally going to bed.

She slept soundly, not waking until six-thirty.

Though she'd slept barely three hours, Ye Luo felt perfectly refreshed.

Three hundred years into the future, she had gotten by on just three or four hours of sleep a day. Now, her body's functions were exactly as they had been before, so she only needed as much sleep as she always had.

Donning her school uniform and grabbing her bag, she headed downstairs.

As she descended, she saw Gong Lu sitting in the living room—dressed in a blood-red suit, sipping black coffee with unhurried elegance, eyes on the morning news.

A faint, unreadable smile played about his lips.

Whether it was the suit or the smile, both lent his already bewitching features an even more devilish allure.

If not for the visible wounds on his neck and the fresh bandages wrapped around his wrist, she might have thought the cold, brooding man from the night before was nothing more than a figment of her imagination.
