Chapter 47: Has the Palace Bureau Really Come for Her?
Ye Luo paid no attention to whether Gong Lu was leaning by the doorway watching her; she simply continued with her work. Once she’d dismantled the computer, she took the tools she’d bought and began modifying the detached computer chip and circuitry.
Watching Ye Luo handle the chip and circuits with such practiced ease, making it clear she was upgrading the newly bought computer, a glint of sharp light flashed across Gong Lu’s phoenix eyes.
Still, Gong Lu said nothing. He simply turned and walked away. Yet after only two steps, he paused, his back to Ye Luo. Without turning his head, almost as if talking to himself, he let out a quiet laugh and asked, “Are you… still He Luo?”
Ye Luo froze instantly.
By the time she looked up toward the doorway, the man’s figure had already vanished.
Staring at the empty threshold, Ye Luo’s icy eyes narrowed slightly. Even if he knew she wasn’t He Luo, so what? Who would ever believe she wasn’t?
With that thought, Ye Luo pushed the matter aside and returned her focus to modifying the computer chip and internal wiring.
With three hundred years of knowledge now at her command, this sort of upgrade was child’s play for Ye Luo. She’d also prepared all the necessary materials, so in less than half an hour, the chip and circuitry were completely transformed.
Once the modifications were done, she reassembled the computer.
She then installed the translation software onto the newly modified laptop.
As for her old computer, Ye Luo had no intention of using it again. She uninstalled the translation program, erased every trace of her previous activity, restored its original operating speed, and only then powered it down and pushed it aside.
She switched to the newly purchased and now upgraded laptop.
The improved machine was blazingly fast; even with the translation software installed, its speed was wholly unaffected.
With a little time left before dinner, Ye Luo logged into the “Top Translators Forum,” entering her account to check if anyone had sent her private messages requesting translations.
Several people had indeed messaged her, asking her to contact them as soon as she was online for translation work. Quite a number of messages, however, weren’t about translations at all, but seemed driven by curiosity about her…
And then there was one…
Seeing the sender’s account name, displayed in bold as the real name “Song Linfeng,” Ye Luo’s hand paused briefly on the mouse before she clicked to open the message.
“Hello, I am Song Linfeng, special assistant to the CEO of the Gong Group. May I ask, have you translated all those orders by yourself? How are your verbal interpreting skills? If you handled them on your own and your oral interpreting is also exceptional, our company would like to offer you an unimaginably high salary and a top position. We sincerely invite you to join us.”
So Gong Lu had even tried to poach her now?
It was rumored that the Gong Group’s senior management were all highly capable and had been lured from far and wide by Gong Lu at extravagant expense. Strangely, it was said that these top executives listened to no one but Gong Lu himself.
Nevertheless, no matter how high the salary or prestigious the position, Ye Luo had no intention of working for anyone else.
She had always been her own boss—never bound to another.
Ye Luo’s fingers flew over the keyboard as she typed her reply: “Thank you, but no.”
As soon as she sent the message, she heard a servant outside calling her down for dinner. She closed the laptop and headed downstairs.
Before she even entered the dining room, she saw Gong Lu already seated inside.
His face was truly mesmerizing; paired with that ambiguous, lazy half-smile and his languid posture, the man radiated an air of wicked, captivating charm.
