Chapter 118: Wishing to Give Her a Perfect Score Right Now?!
Gong Ran scoffed, convinced that Ye Luo had hardly answered any questions. "And you want to be first in the grade with that? My score in a single subject could easily crush your total!"
Only Mr. Wang, holding Ye Luo’s answer sheet, stared at her essay with widening eyes, itching to give her a perfect score right then and there.
...
As soon as Ye Luo walked out of the exam hall, she headed downstairs.
In the stairwell, she bumped into Jiang Dabao, who was pudgy, unusually excited, and humming an old, nostalgic tune as he climbed up.
"Teacher," Ye Luo said out of politeness, though her expression remained impassive.
"Oh! You've already handed in your paper? Why didn't you wait for me to come up?" Despite having run to the office and back, the nearly sixty-year-old Jiang Dabao wasn't even winded, proving that despite his portly frame, he was in excellent health.
"I finished, so I handed it in," Ye Luo replied.
"Ah, I see. That’s good then." Jiang Dabao nodded with a beaming smile and handed her a brand-new black thermos. "This is for you. I went back to the office specifically to brew this for you."
Ye Luo looked at the thermos, unsure of what was inside.
Jiang Dabao looked at her with grandfatherly kindness. "It’s goji berry tea."
Ye Luo remained silent.
"It’s a new thermos," Jiang Dabao continued. "I washed it, but it’s never been used. I wanted to give it to you today. You’ve made so much progress, and I see real hope in you."
Since Jiang Dabao still had to proctor an exam, he didn't chat for long and continued up the stairs.
Ye Luo watched calmly until he disappeared from sight, then continued downstairs.
Once she exited the teaching building, she sat on the ten-step staircase beside the school stadium. She spent the time browsing on her phone, picking up translation jobs to earn some money, and waiting for Ye Wuqi and the others to finish their exams so they could meet up. They had agreed to eat at the cafeteria together at noon.
As for the thermos Jiang Dabao had given her, she set it aside next to her schoolbag. She did not like the taste of goji berry water.
Five minutes later, Ye Wuqi and Yan Baba handed in their papers and arrived at the stadium.
As soon as Ye Wuqi rushed over, he pulled out his phone and said excitedly, "Sister Luo, look at me, look at me, quick, look at me!"
Ye Luo, who had been looking down at her phone, instinctively looked up at her ancestor’s voice. *Click.* Her ancestor had snapped a photo of her looking up.
"Haha, Sister Luo, I’ve got to say, you really are stunning. You look good from every angle. Just wait, I’m sending this to President Gong. He’s abroad, he must miss you like crazy."
Ye Wuqi clicked send, forwarding the photo to Gong Lu’s WeChat.
The ancestor had been doing this for the past three days, and Ye Luo was already used to it. She simply looked back down and went back to her phone.
Yan Baba leaned over to take a look. Seeing the screen filled with foreign languages he couldn't understand, he shook his head and clicked his tongue. "Sister Luo, showing off is fine once in a while, but do you have to do it every day?"
Ye Luo stayed silent.
"Look at you," Yan Baba continued. "You handed in your paper even earlier than me and Qi-ge. It’s obvious you didn't do many questions, yet you keep saying you’ll be first in the grade? You’re more likely to be dead last."
"Get lost," Ye Wuqi pushed him aside. "Why are you such a wet blanket today? Don't you know the beauty is already preparing to collect the red envelopes for this?"
