Chapter 116: She Wanted to Kill the Ancestor...
"You’re usually so decisive, especially when you're handing over money to me. Why do you get cold feet at the critical moment? Stop dragging your feet!"
Seeing Ye Luo just staring down at the red fabric strip in her hands without tying it, Ye Wuqi snatched it away and tied it around her head in a few quick motions. He even finished it off with a double knot at the back of her head.
Ye Luo: "..."
She felt the urge to commit patricide against her own ancestor.
"Forget about the minor quizzes," Ye Wuqi said while checking to see if his own red strip was secure. "But for major exams like the monthly, midterms, and finals, you have to wear one until the exam is over. Oh, by the way, you probably don't know this yet, but in our class, whoever gets first place in these big exams has to treat the whole class to a meal. None of us ever wants to get first, but it’s inevitable that someone will."
Ye Luo: "..."
"As for the person who comes in last in these major exams," Ye Wuqi continued, "we have to comfort them by each giving them a ten-yuan red envelope. Even if you didn't show up for the exam, you still have to pay."
At this point, Qiao Qingyang suddenly pried his sleepy eyes open, looking dazed as if he hadn't fully woken up. "It’s twenty now."
Ye Luo: "..."
"Why did it go up?" Ye Wuqi asked, puzzled.
"Prices have gone up, so of course this has to go up too..." After muttering this like a sleep-talker, Qiao Qingyang drifted back to sleep like a dead weight.
Ye Luo: "..."
Ye Wuqi, however, said, "That makes sense!"
And just like that, it was decided that the consolation red envelope would be twenty yuan.
Afterward, the group dispersed to their respective exam halls. Because Qiao Qingyang was too sleepy to keep his eyes open, Lei Xingxing had to carry him to the exam hall; as it turned out, they were both in the same one.
As soon as Ye Luo arrived at the entrance of Science Class 1, she ran into Gong Ran, who was preparing to enter. Clearly, Gong Ran was also taking the exam in Science Class 1. This was, after all, Gong Ran's own classroom.
Relying on the fact that this was her home turf, Gong Ran’s arrogance was even more pronounced. She tilted her chin high and said, "Do you think wearing a red strip will help you get first in the grade?! I think you’ve been corrupted by the people in Class 19! They’re crazy, and now you’re crazy too!"
"You just got lucky last time! Maybe you even cheated! You know perfectly well what kind of grades they have in Class 19!"
"You really are stupid to the extreme—even cheating only got you a 130!"
"This exam room is full of top students. You could walk in, beg anyone here to let you cheat, and you'd still get more than 130!"
As always, Ye Luo ignored Gong Ran’s clamoring and walked straight into the exam hall.
"Hey! How are you shameless enough to walk in there?!" Gong Ran’s eyes widened as she followed behind, unable to believe it. "Don't you see that you're the only academic failure here?! If I were you, I’d rather die than be embarrassed enough to step into this exam room!"
Ye Luo continued to ignore Gong Ran. Once inside Class 1, she began to look for her seat and discovered it was in the very center of the front row, right against the teacher's podium. Gong Ran’s seat was at the very end of the row to her left.
Seeing Ye Luo sit down in the center of the first row, Gong Ran finally realized where she was sitting. If she hadn't run into Ye Luo at the door, she wouldn't even have known she was in the same exam room.
Gong Ran had wanted to shout a few more things at Ye Luo, but the bell rang, signaling the start of the exam, so she shut her mouth and sat in her seat to prepare.
Just like the college entrance exam, the first subject was Chinese. There were two proctors in the room.
