Inside the room, Ye Luo sat at her computer, headphones on, listening to music as she deftly operated the translation software with her mouse. The headphones were loud enough that she didn’t hear a sound from outside the door.

It wasn’t until twenty minutes later, when thirst struck her, that she stopped working, took off her headphones, stood up with her cup in hand, and prepared to go downstairs for a drink.

She didn’t expect anyone to be outside her door. Without so much as a glance, she opened the door and walked out, only to collide headfirst into Gong Lü.

A muffled sound escaped her as her nose struck his solid chest—not painful, but certainly odd. She had never run into anyone like this before.

Sensing no threat, Ye Luo didn’t try to push past the obstacle before her. Instead, she calmly stepped back, rubbed her nose, and looked up at Gong Lü.

“Do you need something?” she asked in an even tone—otherwise, why else would he be standing at her door?

Gong Lü remained silent, merely watching her, his expression unreadable.

After waiting a moment and seeing he still had nothing to say, Ye Luo decided not to waste any more time. She sidestepped him and headed downstairs to fetch some water.

When she returned, cup in hand, sipping as she climbed the stairs, she saw Gong Lü still standing before her bedroom door, his face as impassive as before. She frowned, almost imperceptibly. The man was acting stranger than usual today. Then again, it wasn’t the first time. She had never managed to figure him out, and she wasn’t in the mood to try now.

As she approached her door, she asked again, “Do you need something?”

When Gong Lü still didn’t answer, she moved to close the door. But before she could, his hand pressed against it, preventing her from shutting it.

What was more infuriating, he still didn’t speak.

“If you have something to say, then say it,” Ye Luo said coldly.

Gong Lü only gazed at her, as if searching her face for something.

Ye Luo was certain there was nothing on her face, and her eyes grew colder by the second. Gong Lü finally withdrew his hand from the door, his phoenix-like eyes never wavering from her.

Frowning, Ye Luo had nothing more to say. She closed the door firmly, leaving Gong Lü standing outside.

The moment the door clicked shut, she distinctly heard Gong Lü call out, “Luoluo.”

But she assumed he was calling for He Luo, and besides, his strange behavior had already left her feeling irritable and restless. She didn’t notice there was anything unusual about the way he called her name.

She simply closed the door, returned to her computer, set her cup down, and put her headphones back on, resuming her work—music in her ears, translating text on the screen.

She had no idea that, outside her door, Gong Lü’s lips trembled uncontrollably as he whispered her name, his voice wavering. Even though the door had been shut for five minutes, Gong Lü still stood frozen in front of it.

Another five minutes passed before he finally lowered his gaze, drew a statement from his pocket, and unfolded it. He studied the words on the page, then looked back at the tightly shut door.

Softly, almost inaudibly, he murmured, “Luoluo, is it you… Have you really come back…”

Ye Luo, on the other side of the door, heard nothing. Music still played in her headphones; she had no idea when Gong Lü finally left her doorway.

Only when she finished translating did she turn off her computer.
