Xu Tianmeng furrowed his brows deeply, then suddenly raised his voice. “What if I’m willing to pay three million to settle this matter peacefully?”

“Three million might be worth considering,” Chen Yang said lightly.

“Good.”

Xu Tianmeng’s expression turned serious. “Considering the trouble I’ve caused you recently, I think three million is a fair price.”

“Then when will you pay?” Chen Yang asked indifferently.

Xu Tianmeng continued solemnly, “Once I pay, you’ll release my men, correct?”

“Three million. Money in one hand, your men in the other.” Chen Yang gave him a faint smile.

“Fine. It’s a deal.” Xu Tianmeng spoke just as calmly. He then pulled out his phone and made a call, apparently to his financial department.

Ten minutes later, the transaction between Xu Tianmeng and Chen Yang was complete. Xu Tianmeng paid the money, and Chen Yang released the men.

Xu Tianmeng left with his two most capable subordinates. Qin Hu suddenly turned to Chen Yang. “President Chen, you really just let them go?”

“Yes, of course. Why? Do you have some other thoughts?” Chen Yang asked, looking at him.

Qin Hu slightly furrowed his brows. “President Chen, although I’m nowhere near as perceptive as you when it comes to judging people, I can still tell that Xu Tianmeng is an ambitious man. I don’t think he’ll let this matter end here.”

“If you can see that, why would you think I can’t?” Chen Yang replied with narrowed eyes.

Qin Hu was stunned. He stared at Chen Yang in disbelief, his mind filled with confusion.

He could not understand it. Since Chen Yang had already seen that Xu Tianmeng was a vicious tiger, why had he released him? Wasn’t that simply sending a tiger back into the mountains?

With that thought, Qin Hu looked at Chen Yang with a complicated expression. “President Chen, I don’t quite understand.”

Chen Yang sneered. “Xu Tianmeng is a bad man. He won’t abandon his wicked ambitions, and naturally I can see that. I agreed to take three million and released his men because I want to see what tricks he plans to play next.”

“Besides, you should know the strategy of loosening the reins only to seize your prey.”

“Loosening the reins only to seize the prey?” Qin Hu gave a bitter smile. “I see. It seems you’ve thought much farther ahead than I have, President Chen.”

“Exactly. That is what this strategy means. Let’s return to the martial arts academy first. We’ll divide this three million among the brothers who distinguished themselves last night, including you,” Chen Yang said.

Qin Hu was shocked once again.

How much was Chen Yang planning to distribute to the brothers? Three million? Wasn’t he being far too generous?

Qin Hu felt that the brothers’ efforts the previous night were not worth three million. He was afraid the reward would exceed their merit, so he said, “President Chen, that won’t do. Three million is a great deal of money, and the brothers can’t accept that much. I think one million would be enough—more than enough.”

“You mean taking out one million to divide among the five brothers and yourself?” Chen Yang asked.

Qin Hu nodded firmly. “Yes. I think our operation last night was probably worth one million.”

“That works too. Since that is your choice, we’ll make it one million.” Chen Yang smiled.

Qin Hu’s face reddened. “Actually, President Chen, one million is already quite a lot.”

“Take the one-million bonus. As for the remaining two million, I’ll bring it out and distribute it later if you perform well. I’ve said before that I’m always willing to spend money on my own people—but only if all of you work sincerely for me,” Chen Yang said calmly.

Qin Hu hurriedly nodded with a serious expression. “President Chen, you can rest assured about my loyalty. I, Qin Hu, have the confidence to remain loyal to you to the very end.”

Chen Yang smiled with satisfaction and patted Qin Hu on the shoulder. “Good. Work hard.”

Chen Yang and Qin Hu walked back into the martial arts academy.

Before long, Lin Qianyao called as well. He asked the same question Qin Hu had asked earlier: Why had Chen Yang released Xu Tianmeng so simply?

Chen Yang gave Lin Qianyao the same answer. He was loosening the reins only to seize his prey. Lin Qianyao understood at once and did not question him further. After chatting briefly with Chen Yang, he hung up.

At the same time, Xu Tianmeng returned to his office. He sat down in his executive chair, his face dark and gloomy.

Just as Chen Yang had surmised, Xu Tianmeng was a vicious wolf. How could he abandon the conflict so easily? In truth, he had no intention of letting the matter go.

Quite apart from everything else, there was what had happened overseas two days earlier, when he had narrowly escaped death. If his foreign servant had not taken a bullet for him, he had no idea whether he would now be reporting to the King of Hell.

Even without considering anything else, that incident alone made Xu Tianmeng grind his teeth and wish for Chen Yang to die at least a thousand times.

Xu Tianmeng sat silently in his chair, deep in thought. At that moment, one of his four most formidable subordinates—a buzz-cut man—said furiously, “Brother Meng, you have to stand up for the brothers. You absolutely have to get justice for us!”

“Damn it, stop bothering me. I’m thinking.” Xu Tianmeng shouted angrily.

The buzz-cut man immediately fell silent. He knew Xu Tianmeng’s temper. When Xu Tianmeng cursed at someone, it meant that he was truly enraged.

Therefore, the buzz-cut man did not dare speak again.

Xu Tianmeng thought for a full half hour before ordering one of the men beside him, “Go and bring Gao Song here.”

“Yes, Brother Meng,” the subordinate replied hurriedly.

The man left.

Half an hour later, Gao Song hurried into Xu Tianmeng’s office. He looked at Xu Tianmeng with concern. “Brother Meng, you’re back? I heard that two days ago, you were overseas and nearly…”

“Damn it.” Xu Tianmeng cursed under his breath, revealing the intense hatred he now felt toward Chen Yang.

“Brother Meng, what orders do you have?” Gao Song looked at him cautiously. He knew Xu Tianmeng had not summoned him for idle conversation. There had to be something important.

Xu Tianmeng closed his eyes and said calmly, “Everyone except Gao Song, get out.”

The others filed out one after another. Before long, Gao Song was the only person left in Xu Tianmeng’s office.

Gao Song glanced around. Once he confirmed that no one else remained, he nervously swallowed. He knew that since Xu Tianmeng had sent everyone away, whatever he was about to say must be of enormous importance.

Gao Song stared intently at Xu Tianmeng. Xu Tianmeng kept his eyes closed in silence for a full thirty seconds before suddenly opening them.

“Gao, tonight I want you to find people and kill that man surnamed Chen, no matter the cost. Do you have the confidence to do it?”

“Tonight?” A grave expression appeared between Gao Song’s brows.

“Yes, tonight. No matter how great the price—whether in lives or money—you must kill that man surnamed Chen. Do you have the confidence?”

Gao Song nervously rubbed his hands together. “Brother Meng, to be honest, I’m eighty percent confident, but not one hundred percent.”

Xu Tianmeng narrowed his eyes. “Then add more strength and turn that eighty percent into a certainty.”

Gao Song furrowed his brows and pondered for half a minute. At last, as though he had made up his mind, he said, “All right, Brother Meng. I’ll take care of it.”

Xu Tianmeng nodded. “Good. Use any of my men you need, and tell me how much money you require.”

Gao Song smiled. “Brother Meng, I may need to use some of your men, but I won’t need any money. Money won’t be necessary.”

“Gao, if you can make this happen, the position of second-in-command will be yours. From then on, you’ll share in my wealth and glory. I can share everything with you except women.” Xu Tianmeng spoke with great confidence.

Gao Song smiled expectantly. “Understood, Brother Meng. I’ll do my utmost. I’ll give it everything I have.”

“Good. Go make the arrangements.” Xu Tianmeng’s voice was cold and sinister.

Gao Song nodded seriously. “Understood, Brother Meng. I’ll be going.”

“Go.” Xu Tianmeng watched him with anticipation.

Gao Song nodded at him and offered a faint smile before turning and leaving at a brisk pace.

At two in the morning, a group of men in black suddenly appeared at the rear entrance of the Dongjiang Hotel in Dongjiang City, where Chen Yang was staying. There were eight of them, led by Gao Song.

Gao Song had brought the eight men for one purpose only: to kill Chen Yang.

For tonight’s operation, Gao Song had made thorough preparations. First, he had obtained the key to Chen Yang’s room. Second, a deputy general manager of the Dongjiang Hotel was his friend and had given him an access card that could open any door on any floor of the hotel. In short, Gao Song would be able to move through the Dongjiang Hotel without obstruction.

The rear entrance was cold and desolate. Standing in the biting wind, Gao Song addressed his men excitedly. “Brothers, if we pull this job off, you’ll all be heroes. I’m Brother Meng’s second-in-command, and all of you will become my trusted inner circle. From then on, you’ll have the best food, the finest drink, and a life of comfort.”

“When you get into the room, do everything you can to take that brat down. As for the aftermath, Brother Meng has already arranged everything. You have nothing to worry about. Now pull yourselves together. It’s time to get to work. Are you all ready?”
